Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently recruiting for an Engineering Manager to join our Consulting team supporting an Integrated Project Management Partnership (iPMP) for a prestigious development in Romania and the Black Sea.

The position will be on a contractor basis with the initial phase being based in Staines until 2 nd Quarter 2023. After this the role will move with the project to the Middle East or Asia and then Romania Black Sea for the final Hook up and Commissioning. Our expectation is that this will be a role lasting more than 4 years.

The Role

The Engineering Manager will manage the Shallow Water Platform (SWP) design through FEED verification and thereafter manage the SWP content for the scope through to handover to Operations.

The role will include technical and SWP scope evaluation of EPIC tenders, leading into the technical review of the SWP detailed design across all engineering disciplines and then Construction and Commissioning support.

The ultimate objectives are:
  • To ensure that the SWP design meets the satisfaction of the Regulator (or IVB)
  • To ensure that the selected SWP EPIC Contractor is fully aware of the scope, has included for the full scope in their tender and is assessed as being competent to perform the scope
  • To actively review the SWP EPIC design and comment on it as necessary to correct flaws / defects
  • To approve relevant philosophies, specifications, reports and drawings
  • To allow the SWP EPIC Contractor to proceed with the production of AFD/AFC deliverables and construction of the SWP
  • The role will involve reviewing technical and schedule performance of the EPIC Contractor
  • Ongoing support during the construction and commissioning phases

SWP Engineering Manager is Responsible for:
  • Preparing workflow and engineering direction for the SWP multi-discipline engineering team
  • Preparing and reporting workflow status / progress
  • Reviewing (and where necessary, approving) SWP design changes
  • Reviewing and approving SWP design during the EPIC phase
    Represent the client (as authorised and necessary) to contractors, suppliers, consultants, and service providers in the execution of the project, specifically with respect to the SWP
  • Contribute to the preparation and consistency of the ITT Packages and other project deliverables


Skills / Qualifications

Key Requirements for the role:
  • Extensive Offshore Gas Platform Experience, preferable of which some is "Normally Unattended Installations"
  • Extensive recent Mega Project experience (projects > £3B
  • Float over and lift on offshore topsides installation experience
  • Ability to travel to Middle East or Asia to support detailed design, then to Asia for platform fabrication and then Romania Black Sea for final Hook Up and Commissioning, when overseas
  • Until now and second quarter 2023 to be based in Staines office
