As a Firmware Engineer in CWI, you will be responsible for:
  • Understand system level requirements and expectations
  • Analyze needs and design firmware after getting detailed information regarding the scope, performance, limitations and capabilities of the project
  • Delivers embedded software for microcontroller including: interacting with communication protocols / busses; low level driver development; measurement and digital signal processing; and actuator control and closed loop control
  • Develops firmware solutions as part of a cross functional team including scientists, mechanical engineers, and electrical engineers
  • Participates in code reviews and system performance reviews at various stages of development
  • Improve firmware by making modifications after consulting with the project lead
  • Supports qualification testing, field trials, and failure investigation of current and future products.
  • Reviews and submits patents and technical papers
  • Handles special projects, as assigned


Fuel your passion

To be successful in this role you will have:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electronic, Electrical, Computer Engineering or Computer Science with 4+ years design experience; Master's Degree in a related field with 3+ years design experience; or Ph.D. in a related field with 2+ years design experience
  • Experience with programming microcontrollers using embedded C or embedded C++
  • Experienced in using measurement and laboratory equipment
  • Knowledge of firmware design, testing, and debugging
  • The successful candidate must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship


Desired Characteristics
  • Has programmed for fault resistant systems / understanding of design-for-reliability requirements
  • Worked with DSP and microprocessor systems and architecture.
  • Knowledge of the TI's Code Composer Studio
  • Understanding of interfacing to common external peripherals (flash, ADC's, RTC's) and common bus protocols (SPI, CAN, I2C)
  • Knowledge of FPGA and parallel digital signal processing
  • Experience in programming desktop software using C++
  • Experience in using of version control systems
  • Experience with Code Composer Studio IDE, version 6 or greater
  • Good individual communication skills and excellent problem-solving ability
  • Ability to prepare technical reports and present results
  • Able to travel to remote field locations and work under less than ideal environmental conditions occasionally.
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Quick learner, action oriented, ethical in values, and have strong customer focus
