Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently recruiting for a Senior Civil / Structural Engineer with extensive experience in the Energy or LNG industry.

Local candidates preferred as there is no relocation assistance or per diem.

The Senior Civil / Structural Engineer is responsible for providing technical assurance and guidance during the development and detailed design phases of the regasification, liquefaction, infrastructure, and renewable projects being developed. The work includes, but is not limited to, site preparation, foundation design, structural steel design and building design. The Senior Civil / Structural Engineer will evaluate the EPC Contractor deliverables to ensure the designs are safe, fit-for-purpose and meet industry codes and project specifications. This role will also monitor the construction and installation of related civil and structural activities, including site preparation work. Additional responsibilities include:
  • Participates in assigned phases of the technical development, design, and implementation of site works and facilities associated with the project
  • Participates in project development efforts by coordinating quality assurance reviews and providing feedback on engineering documents and drawings to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards and specifications; recommends the implementation of efficient construction techniques and scheduling to ensure readiness for early works to support project construction
  • Develops bidding documents and recommends contract awards
  • Evaluates EPC Contractor's engineering techniques, procedures and design criteria to minimize site work and associated costs
  • Monitors and provides project status updates to project management and project development; advises on conditions and activities that may impact the development, completion or performance of project and facilities
  • Coordinates the development and review of studies including, but not limited to, fault identification, settlement, soils disposal and aggregate delivery to site, pipe-rack pre-assembly and / or modularization studies
  • Participates in project meetings, reviews, and workshops; performs quality assurance reviews and inspection of design and effectively applies knowledge of safe-work processes and procedures to ensure the design and installation are safe
  • Reviews the EPC Contractor's deliverables, submittals, material/equipment selections, construction plans and procedures; ensures that all construction activities conform to the project design documents and project specifications
  • Supports project construction efforts by attending and participating in construction meetings; resolves design, installation, and interface issues that arise at the project site during construction. Tracks construction activities to ensure progress is compliant to overall project schedule
  • Provides technical input to support economic analysis for project development
  • Updates Engineering Knowledge Bank and shares lessons learned

Skills / Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in the Energy or LNG Industry
  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering discipline
  • Master's Degree in Civil Engineering is preferred
  • PE or SE license is preferred
  • Full use and application of standard Civil / Structural Engineering principles / techniques. Familiar with engineering principles and concepts in other disciplines (Instrumentation & Controls, Electrical and Mechanical)
  • Solid knowledge of Civil / Structural industry codes, regulations, and standards, with demonstrated ability to apply effectively
  • Able to understand client work practices, policies, and procedures and how to apply them
  • Understands key activities, milestones and deliverables at each project stage and factors that may impact the development or completion of project / facility
  • Working knowledge of construction practices / techniques, project controls, and safe work principles
  • Solid understanding of LNG business functions
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret civil / structural drawings, diagrams and reports including plot plans, equipment arrangement, and Piping and Instrument Drawings (P&IDs)
  • Proficient use of Civil / Structural software packages; comfortable learning new tools and technologies
  • Capable of solving almost all routine and some moderate problems using various analytical methods
  • Receives minimal supervision and typically works independently to complete assignments / tasks. Obtains supplementary instructions as needed
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple assignments with competing deadlines
  • Capable of tracking project deliverables with little or no supervision
  • Completed work is reviewed for soundness of technical judgment and to determine if objectives have been met
  • Coordinates activities with Supervisor when communicating across functions or handling non-routine tasks
  • Uses sound judgment and decision-making skills to effectively work towards a solution
  • Developing leadership skills; recommends solutions and provides technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced team members
