Overview / Responsibilities

Job title: Instrument Technician

Location: Cramlington
Duration: 6 months Initially

Wood is currently recruiting for a COMPEX certified Instrument Technician to provide maintenance support, completing PPM routines, breakdown fault finding and fixing. Experience in the pharmaceutical/life sciences industry would be beneficial for this role.

Duties will include;

  • Fault finding and fix on process equipment, all types and style of digital and analogue instrumentation
  • Ability to complete instrument calibrations following procedures
  • Completion of routine maintenance tasks on instrumentation
  • Typical systems to work on will be in-line instruments and those mounted on vessels, air handling units, utilities installations, powder handling
  • Inst types - O2 monitoring, pH, temp, pressure, density, TOC, dissolved oxygen, level plus other specialist insts
  • Equipment ranges from small scale glass vessels to medium sized stainless teel vessels and associated equipment.
  • Ability to understand control loops and work with automation engineers when problem solving
  • Commissioning of replacement equipment into service


Experience

Essential:

• Knowledge of hydrocarbon/Industrial production systems and associated hazards

• Good understanding of process instrumentation

• Good knowledge of process control systems

• Good knowledge of fire and gas detection and ESD systems

• Clear understanding of cause and effect logic diagrams

• Fully familiar with the permit to work system and isolation procedures

Competencies

• Able to carry out all activities safely and efficiently to agreed work plans, safety management system requirements and best working practices as required by supervisor
• Able to complete work history / reports to the required standard as outlined by supervisor
• Isolating and de-isolating instrumentation and control equipment in accordance with the site electrical safety rules (client and/or Wood)

Essential:

• Recognised Instrument Apprenticeship or equivalent training scheme

• HNC in Control/ Instrumentation Engineering (Post 2009 apprenticeships)

• NVQ/SVQ Level 3 certification or equivalent in Maintenance

• COMPEX (Hazardous Areas) units -01 to 04

• Use of CMS Systems

• CCNSG Safety Passport

Desirable:

• Pharma experience

• TSBT01&02 (to be completed as post mobilisation training on a 3 yearly refresher)
