The Environment Engineer is critical to business continuity as its main focus is compliance, with environmental legislation, health and safety legislation and client requirements whilst actively promoting environmental good practice.  The Environmental Engineer is subject matter expert for environmental matters at Hull site and is part of the SHE team that upholds the values of the safety, health and environmental policy approved by the board.

The Environmental engineer will be the point of contact for legislative compliance for all environmental matters.  This means the post holder will be responsible for maintaining good working relationships with the regulator, local environmental and conservation groups.  In turn, the environmental engineering will be responsible for reporting back up through the line to the SHE Manager and the local Leadership Team, making them aware of clients environmental policies and site environmental performance, including changes in legislation and current client and industry practices.
 
Duties:
  • Manage environmental management programme and the environmental management system.
  • Subject matter expert for environmental legislation and clients environmental standards.
  • Operational owner of the Waste Management contract.
  • Support assurance processes and self-verification systems on site.
  • Manage waste minimisation plan for the site
  • Manage the greenhouse gas emissions permit under the environmental trading scheme (ETS) and coordinate the relevant information for verification.
  • Responsible for the relevant areas coordination for ISO-9001
  • Responsible for ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and lead for internal environmental audits. Duty includes reporting and updating the BSI Auditor of any EA notifications.
  • Responsible for developing the environmental strategy & the forward agenda for sustaining environmental performance.
  • Champion environmental improvements via the Asset plan and Capex programs.
  • Assist in the creation and management of the Carbon Plan.
  • Lead greenhouse gas emissions and energy management for the site.
  • Manage the site environmental permit and prepare any correspondence to the regulator or applications for variations that may be required and reporting of any permit breaches.
 
Level of education & Experience in general
 
  • A degree in environmental management / chemical engineering or similar with essential experience in the oil, gas or petrochemical business.
  • A minimum of 2 years in an oil, gas or petrochemical business
  • Experience in environmental or operations management.
  • Working knowledge of key environmental legislation.
  • Experience of working with the UK Environment Agency
  • Auditing experience.
  • Working knowledge of basic health, safety, security and crisis and continuity management legislation.

  • Environmental abatement techniques.
  • Environmental risk assessment.
  • Environmental and social impact assessment.
  • Water and wastewater management.
  • Air emission sampling and monitoring.
