The Automation and Controls Systems Design Engineer will support Baker Hughes Pressure Pumping technology division with detailed methodology and algorithm designs pertaining to oilfield concepts, combined with testing and field trials of prototype hardware and software related to equipment automation. This role reports to the Pressure Pumping Research and Development Manager. The right candidate must be capable of implementing automation designs for the project outputs based on their own field experiences, requirements and/or direction from the R&D Manager. These include creating new mechanical, electrical, software tools, and equipment concepts that will enable the automated control of the Pressure Pumping Surface Equipment. This individual will be accountable for the deliverables of the projects they manage. He/She must be capable of taking a leadership design role, interacting with other team members, and have excellent communication skills.

The Surface Equipment Automation Engineer will support Baker Hughes Pressure Pumping technology division with new mechanical, electrical, software tools, and equipment concepts, combined with testing and field trials of prototypes to support automation technologies. This role reports to the Pressure Pumping Research and Development Manager. The candidate must be capable of taking a leadership design role, interacting with other team members, and have excellent communication skills (English). This job requires conceptual or theoretical activities related to the principles of engineering for the design, analysis, manufacturing, and maintenance of instrumentation, controls, and automation systems as well as a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of complex and highly technical concepts and principles in the function of Pressure Pumping Operations. The candidate will Lead analytical and design activities using proven technologies and vested approaches and methods. Presents to senior leaders (EB and SEB) in specific technical space and on cross-functional teams on how technologies interconnect and contribute to overall strategy. Connects the dots across technologies and develop cross-technology solutions; works on cross-functional projects/teams to deliver technology solutions for the business. Communicates across the function in the following areas of expertise:

  • Instrumentation and controls system conceptualization based on field specifications or detailed requirements
  • Interact with team members or support staff to finalize design and to create prototype system
  • Interact with team members or support staff to build and function test prototype
  • Interact with team members or support staff to assist/direct prototype field testing
  • Provide on-site field supervision to support the new technology
  • Oversee any design changes from field trial, and prepare for handoff to production department
  • Project leadership
  • Directing and/or responding to timelines and budget requirements

To be successful as a Automation Controls System Engineer you will:

  • Engineering Degree with focus on control and automation systems.
  • 5+ years' experience with automation systems. Oilfield related experience preferred.
  • It is preferred that candidates have experience designing equipment control systems, electronics, and software
