Principal Mechanical Engineer - Various Projects, Glasgow Based

Wood are seeking an experienced Senior / Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our Process & Energy division on a permanent staff basis in our Glasgow office, providing key support and mechanical expertise across a range of projects. The opportunity offers a high profile position to be part of a significant growth group with ambitious plans.

Our Process & Energy division are currently supporting Energy Efficiency, Emissions Reduction FEED and Detailed Design projects including, supporting the UK's largest industrial Carbon Capture and Underground Storage project and large scale Hydrogen generation, transportation and supply projects.

The team also supports gas midstream infrastructure and chemical industry projects, providing high quality engineered solutions to the market and the world's first commercial scale plant using innovative process to chemically recycle end-of-life plastic waste into hydrocarbon feedstocks into valuable chemicals and oils.

  • Working with teams to best practices.
  • Support the Discipline Manager mentoring graduate and developing engineers.
  • Build strong Client relations to ensure expectations are met.

Process Ownership:
  • Management of own workload and budgets across designated work scopes to ensure targets are achieved.
  • Adhere to and comply with relevant discipline specific procedures and provide feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Participate in audits and incident investigations as required.

Subject Matter Expertise:
  • Technically competent and actively maintains competence according to standards and pursues continuous development.
  • Ensure self-awareness of relevant regulatory framework, legislation changes, initiatives and industry technology.
  • Provide discipline input to scope definition and execution.
  • Deliver the mechanical engineering project across various scopes of work.
  • Prepare material requisitions for a range of Static, Rotating and Package equipment.
  • Provide technical support to Engineering studies such as design reviews, HAZOP, SIL, and Constructability reviews.
  • Take a lead in resolving technical issues across multiple disciplines, driving the technical solutions to completion.
  • Checking of vendor calculations against design code and best practice.
  • Understand, review and comment on process design data to ensure appropriate equipment specification and selection.
  • Review Suppliers quotations and prepare technical quotation evaluation.
  • Work closely with the Procurement team to develop the best solution for our Clients.
  • Review of vendor documentation requirements for use and integration within project.
  • Manage project documentation effectively, ensuring all disciplines receive the quality information at the right time.
  • Correspond with the Vendor on technical matters and ensure that action is taken where necessary.
  • Drive post order activities to completion.

  • Supporting and supervising tasks delegated to direct reports.
  • Executing assigned personal objectives.
  • Relevant experience in operational and maintenance engineering is preferred.

Skills / Qualifications

  • Degree qualified in a Mechanical Engineering discipline, chartered status is an advantage
  • Industry experience within Refinery, Energy, Petrochemical, Oil & Gas etc
  • Experience of Vendor co-ordination meetings and supporting engineering design reviews
  • Demonstrable e xperience of working with various clients and vendors
  • Flexible attitude with proven experience of effective working in a project team environment
  • Computer literate with common software packages such as Microsoft Office

Ideally the appointed will have knowledge / experience of:
  • API 610, API 617, API 618, API 675, ASME VIII & PD5500 standard codes
  • Finglow, PV Elite, HTRI IT packages
