Asset management Fabrication Technician - Working within the Asset Management Newcastle FPS team. Manufacturing of fabricated parts for internal and external customers. Operating fabrication tooling and machines to produce these parts. The role will involve fabrication design input, material selection, material forming, welding, visual and NDE Inspections. At this level the technician should be highly skilled in TAG, GMAW and SMAW welding processes in 3G, 4G or 6G. This includes the maintenance and certification of the global reel fleet, inspecting and repairing as directed by the fabrication leader. At this level the technician will have a sound understanding of the engineering principles

As a Welding Technician, you will be responsible for:
  • Reading and checking engineering drawings
  • Following written SOI, COI's along with verbal instructions with the ability to liaise and communicate effectively with engineers and management
  • Liaise with internal production supervision
  • Using a range of fabrication machinery and power tools
  • Demonstrate and collaborate with creative ideas for more effective working practices
  • Take an active lead on incorporating safety improvements, lean improvements, and Kaizen improvements
  • Inspection/ fault finding and repairs to the Reel fleet working to required standards
  • PC literate
  • Passing internal weld procedures to AWS D1.1 3G & 4G
  • Performing any other duties as directed by the fabrication leader
  • Taking a lead on HSE and always follow the Baker hughes safety culture.

To be successful in this role you will have:
  • Time served Fabricator/Welder/ Plater/ Pipefitter. Craft / technician
  • City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3 qualified, relevant experience also considered
  • ONC / HNC advantageous
  • PC literate
  • Experience in the oil and gas or energy sector
  • Knowledge in NDE advantageous
  • CSWIP Welding Inspection advantageous
  • Safety qualifications or training advantageous


Work environment
  • Able to work at height
  • Work outside in all weather conditions
  • Work in Confined space
  • Oxy Fuel and Plasma cutting experience
  • Operating MEWP and Forklift trucks (training provided)
  • Operating overhead cranes (training provided)
  • Ability to work in a team environment and unsupervised
