Wood Environment & Infrastructure has a career opportunity for an Environmental Remediation Technician to join our Northwest Remediation Practice. This is an excellent opportunity to start or grow your career working as part of an established team with diverse and interesting projects. The position will be based in in our Portland, OR office and requires a self-motivated candidate to support senior and other experienced project staff.

This position will provide opportunities to learn and develop the skills to perform routine and nonroutine operations and maintenance and build and maintain treatment systems, solve problems, and document solutions, and support project staff with routine fieldwork. The position will include work on a variety of multi-disciplinary projects, with emphasis on soil, groundwater, surface water, and stormwater sampling and remediation systems. This person will be a member of teams providing environmental consulting services to commercial and government clients and will initially perform routine technical tasks under direction of experienced staff.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Follow company and project-specific safety and business conduct standards
  • Perform routine fieldwork (such as environmental multi-media sampling) under supervision
  • Setting up and operating equipment, inspecting equipment and installations for compliance with specifications, and maintaining proper project documentation
  • Contact vendors; research available information on equipment and vendors; seek solutions to repair and/or maintain treatment systems
  • Perform field oversight of Wood or subcontractor personnel
  • Interact with specialists in other technical practice areas in support of projects
  • Other activities as required, and based on abilities and interest

Skills/Qualifications

 

 

  • Team player with strong problem-solving skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, good organizational skills, a willingness to learn, the ability to self-manage multiple tasks and priorities, the ability to follow written procedures, and the willingness to seek help from senior staff as needed
  • Must possess a High School Diploma or GED equivalent, with preference for a 2-year degree in science/engineering technology or trade certification
  • 0 to 5 years of experience as an environmental technician or similar role
  • Ability to work in industrial and field environments as well as the office
  • Excellent mechanical skills and hands-on skills with tools and mechanical systems
  • Flexibility to work outside normal business hours as required
  • Willingness to travel and accept short or occasional long-term assignments outside of Portland. When traveling, ability to properly maintain project field documentation and communicate effectively with project manager and field team is required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software products (Word and Excel)
  • Valid drivers license and current automobile insurance or ability to qualify for automobile insurance coverage
  • Ability to perform work in personal protective equipment and air purifying respirator, if required
  • Ability to pass a physical exam for medical clearance to work on hazardous waste sites
  • Must pass drug test, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training and current refresher certificate are a plus but not required
