Duties & Responsibilities

Functions
  • Ensure NASA requirements are satisfied by design solutions and support production/control board meetings, design and system reviews.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of systems engineering products including ECLSS architecture trade studies, requirements, verification and validation criteria, interface control documents, schematics, and test plans.
  • Review high-level plans and schedules for the manufacturing, fabrication, procurement, assembly, testing and certification of the HALO ECLSS systems.
  • Support the development of CDR and manufacturing readiness review products and participate in module system reviews.
  • Evaluate various options and offer best technical guidance with regard to various trade-offs (technical, schedule, risk, etc.).
  • Work in a team environment and report to senior NASA personnel to provide status on contractor/vendor development progress and issues.
  • Perform project management activities for the ECLSS systems of the HALO module including risk, cost, schedule, and technical management.
  • Coordinate with matrix organizations for the development of the module ECLSS design and analyses.
  • Periodic travel may be required.
  • Perform other tasks assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

Required:
  • BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school and a minimum of fourteen (14) years of direct engineering experience, or a MS degree from an accredited engineering school and twelve (12) years of direct engineering experience, or Ph.D. degrees and nine (9) years direct engineering experience.
  • Experience with the development of space systems requirements documents including functional requirements and verification success criteria.
  • Knowledge of commonly-used NASA concepts, practices, processes and procedures relating to mechanical and electrical system design, engineering drawings and sketches, material selection, and design software and tools.
  • Effectively communicate across a wide-range of technical disciplines, with vendors/contractors, direct customers and upper management.
  • Experience in risk assessment and implementation of risk reducing measures.
  • Ability to prepare written documents/presentations and to verbally present at various meetings.

Requisition Preferences:
  • Experience with the design, assembly, verification, testing, and operation of space ECLSS systems including Atmosphere, Revitalization Systems, Atmosphere Conditioning, Environmental Monitoring, Pressure Control Systems, and Emergency s ystems.
  • Familiar with Johnson Space Center (JSC) organizations, processes, and procedures.
  • Experience with vehicle atmosphere conditioning, environmental monitoring (air/water), thermal systems or crew systems.
  • Experience with ECLSS Emergency Systems and system qualification.
  • Experience with NASA SE&I processes and techniques and model-based systems engineering (MBSE).
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.
  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
  • Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised.
