Aramco energizes the world economy.
Aramco occupies a unique position in the global energy industry. We are the world's largest producer of hydrocarbons (oil and gas), with the lowest upstream carbon intensity of any major producer.
With our significant investment in technology and infrastructure, we strive to maximize the value of the energy we produce for the world along with a commitment to enhance Aramco's value to society.
Headquartered in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and with offices around the world, we combine market discipline with a generations' spanning view of the future, born of our nine decades experience as responsible stewards of the Kingdom's vast hydrocarbon resources. This responsibility has driven us to deliver significant societal and economic benefits to not just the Kingdom, but also to a vast number of communities, economies, and countries that rely on the vital and reliable energy that we supply.
We are one of the most profitable companies in the world, as well as amongst the top five global companies by market capitalization.
Saudi Aramco seeks an experienced and recognized researcher to join the Reservoir Engineering Technology Team within EXPEC Advanced Research Center (EXPEC ARC) based in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. The position is grounded on a framework of circular carbon economy to map current technologies, identify new opportunities, and leverage research to ultimately help our Upstream proponents reduce their carbon emissions. The candidate must be able to initiate and lead research projects in upstream sustainability with specific focus on CO2 emission reduction technologies. This includes undertaking and supervising research and development tasks including lab studies, feasibility studies, field trials and ultimately field deployment. Should be able to direct fundamental studies related to CO2 sequestration in oil and gas reservoirs, aquifers, basaltic rocks, or any other related topic. Focus on reservoir mechanisms including interfacial phenomena, flow in porous media, CO2 interactions and phase behaviour, and displacement experiments. Must also be familiar with reservoir engineering knowhow, simulation, economics, risk/uncertainty analysis, and operations of sustainability projects including pilots. The position also includes leading technical and multi-disciplinary teams and training junior scientists and engineers. An important aspect of this position is the ability to work closely with our field proponents, with a strong emphasis for field deployment.
The Saudi Aramco EXPEC Advanced Research Center (EXPEC ARC) provides an unrivalled environment for creativity and innovation in the upstream sector by creating new opportunities to find, develop, and produce hydrocarbon resources cost-effectively and sustainably to meet Saudi Aramco's unique upstream technological needs. EXPEC ARC's mission is to be a pre-eminent center for subsurface technology research and development, globally renowned for invention and innovation. It is dedicated to provide solutions to the company's strategic goals including increasing hydrocarbon discovery and recovery, and ensuring cost-effective, sustainable long-term production reliability. EXPEC ARC research teams develop a vast range of dynamic upstream technologies spanning from the nano-scale, all the way to the giga-scale. The Reservoir Engineering research team is working at the leading edge on topics related to IOR, CO2 emissions reduction, nanotechnology, pore-scale physics, formation evaluation, deep diagnostics and 4IR application in reservoir engineering. The Center provides a platform for innovation and creativity in which "pushing the technology envelope" is expected.
Important duties and responsibilities for the position include:
Perform original and leading-edge research in CO2 emissions reduction technologies
Identify, developing and mapping current CO2 emissions and sustainability pathways of our projects and technologies.
Drive high-impact low carbon intensity solutions that improve operational efficiency.
Lead R&D programs. Able to form and lead multi-disciplinary technical teams. Initiate collaborative research with others, both within and outside the company.
Develop plans for R&D and pilot projects, including reservoir simulation, reservoir engineering, design of surface facilities, well design, and manage operations.
Identif different upstream opportunities under the circular carbon economy's framework and its 4R pillars: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Remove.
Help building state-of-the-art research capabilities and laboratories.
Generate far-reaching new ideas and contribute substantially to existing projects.
Develop and deploy new sustainable (CO2 emission reduction) technologies in the oilfield.
Work closely with our proponents from Reservoir Management, Production Engineering, Facilities, Operations Engineering and other departments.
The 'go-to' person in all aspects of sustainability related to upstream operations.
Guide/mentor young professionals in their technical and professional development.
Participate in technical societies and represent Aramco on industry committees.
PhD in petroleum/chemical engineering or a related field is required.
Minimum of ten (10-15) years work experience in a substantive industrial, research, and technology development environment relevant to sustainability.
Must have worked on projects that reduce CO2 emissions from upstream operations.
Prior experience in development and deployment of sustainable upstream technologies.
Knowledge on 4IR technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning/data analytics and their integration into upstream projects is a plus.
Strong commitment to safety and excellent verbal/writing skills.
Excellent in research as evidenced by the candidate's history of field deployments, technical publications, granted patents, international awards and professional society activities.
