The Gas Controller is responsible for leading the safe and efficient operations of the pipeline and associated compressor stations. They will support all pipeline operating functions including the O&M of pipeline facilities, measurement facilities and equipment, basic instrumentation and controls, and pigging activity in accordance with Company policies/procedures and DOT regulations. This person will be accountable for assuring compliance to all physical risk management processes and procedures, coordinating and controlling all work activities at the plant site, and monitoring equipment. This person will also be in charge of daily gas nomination coordination with gas supply and interfacing with interconnect pipeline technicians.

Essential Duties / Functions

  1. Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the pipeline and associated compressor stations, monitoring equipment, PHMSA compliance, daily gas nomination coordination with gas supply, interface with interconnect pipeline operators, and interface with P/L
  2. Maintenance and communication of outages to commercial.
  3. Daily operation of the natural gas compression and transmission Pipeline, from the control room.
  4. Oversight of all work permitting, lock out, tag out, and SIMOPS processes.
  5. Assure the safe and reliable operation of the facilities through the implementation of regulatory compliance policies, procedures, physical risk management plans, and best practices.
  6. Provide technical leadership and coordination of all operational activities at the listed facilities.
  7. Write, edit, and maintain operating procedures, alarm response and consequences of deviation.
  8. Administration and oversight of contractors to ensure high quality and best economic benefit.
  9. Provide forecast and budgeting input within Operating Area guidelines.
  10. Sourcing and scheduling of Op-tech training, results measurement.
  11. Works with Maintenance, Engineers and Supervisors to identify specific routine and non-routine maintenance activities, outage activities along with improvement projects.
  12. Participates in the Emergency Response Actions on his/her shift in an emergency event.

Minimum Education Requirements of the position:

  • High School Diploma required

Minimum Experience required of the position:

  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience in Natural gas or similar Pipeline transmission and storage facilities

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position:

  • High level knowledge of gas transmission including: Gas compression, both reciprocating compressors and turbines, Condensate management, Line Pack management, Custody Transfer process, Damage Prevention Programs.
  • Trouble shooting and root cause analysis
  • Knowledge of turbine and compressor performance analysis and operational theory
  • Excellent leadership skills and good communications skills (written and verbal) are required
  • Self starter with ability to work strategically with minimal direction
  • Ability to use computer programs such as windows, outlook, MS word, MS excel, SAP
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in an emergency situation
  • Strong attention to details; and experienced in complex control loops

Working conditions:

  • Shift Work, Control Room Operator, Rotating to field work for overtime coverage, working alone at times
