Overview / Responsibilities Wood is currently seeking an
Intermediate Environmental Scientist to join our Maritime's Environmental Sciences team in
Fredericton, New Brunswick. The successful candidate will work within the environmental sciences group under the supervision of the group lead and senior biologists. Primary responsibilities will be to provide support on a wide variety of projects as delegated by the senior staff within the group.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead in the planning and execution of:
- fisheries and aquatic resources investigations
- terrestrial biological studies
- conduct estuary/marine biological studies
- On-site environmental compliance Inspections
- Report writing of aquatic habitat assessments, environmental impact assessments, wetland assessment and impact reports, and environmental mitigation/protection plans
- preparation of proposals, regulatory scoping documents and technical reports
- obtaining regulatory approvals for a wide variety of projects
Skills / Qualifications - University Degree in Biology or Environmental Science, however applicants with technical diplomas may be considered
- 2-5 years' experience, preferably in the consulting sector
- Solid technical and/or academic background in biological sciences
- Relevant technical or regulatory experience from the consulting industry
- Experience with some or all of the following:
- Conducting general and specific environmental resources surveys and analysis including aquatic and marine sciences: (fish community, benthic invertebrate and sediment sampling, water quality sampling, area-velocity discharge measurements and fish habitat mapping)
- Terrestrial sciences: wetland delineations, botany, fauna, avian surveys
- Willingness to
- work flexible hours including field work under a variety of conditions
- travel and work outdoors, possibly in remote locations for extended periods of time
- Strong computer, verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to
- work in Canada with a valid Canadian driver's license
- work effectively as a member of a team, and also independently with minimal supervision and direction
- demonstrate excellent writing and communication skills
- demonstrate an existing strong commitment to personal/professional development and HSSEA policies and procedures
- Preference will be given to candidates with the following:
- Experience in the Maritime Provinces
- Experience in consulting sector
- A good understanding of Federal and Provincial regulatory policies, legislation, and guidelines.
- A familiarity and interest in socio-economic, Climate Change and Human Health Impact Analyses and Indigenous Engagement
