Overview / Responsibilities

Wood has an immediate requirement for a Lead Piping Designer to join our Brisbane office. We can offer you a career in the ever-expanding battery and magnet metals industry driving the decarbonisation of the globe. This role will be based in our modern office in the city centre and will be a key pillar for our team.

A key component of decarbonising the world is the Mining and Minerals Industry which supplies the critical minerals required for this revolution. Wood is currently delivering critical metals projects (Battery and Magnet metals) all over the world, including Copper, Lithium, Vanadium, Rare Earths, and Base Metals projects.

In this role, you will be responsible for but not limited to:
  • Ensuring that the quality of output of the design section is in line with the needs of the customer and regulatory authorities
  • Providing technical and commercial direction to designers, overview design quality, design schedules, and design budgets and perform detailed review of critical aspects of projects
  • Assess the suitability of staff and identify the key resources for specific projects
  • Motivate and obtain the commitment of design personnel to project QA/QC requirements, i.e. provide a fit for purpose design, on time and within budget
  • Promote a safe work environment and ensure zero harm


Skills / Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years design experience in the resource industry
  • Ability to deliver best practice plant / piping design, with emphasis on cost-effective engineering
  • Well-developed computer skills with a good knowledge of 3D CAD systems preferably Bentley products
  • Experience with Process Plant design and layout
  • Possess teamwork skills as well as an understanding of other discipline requirements and expectations
  • Quick and accurate with methodical approach to allocated work areas
  • Good understanding of the scope of work and project development process
  • Proficient checking skills with ability to work unsupervised, focus on task completion, initiative
  • Quick and accurate with methodical approach to allocated work areas
  • Good verbal, written, interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Capacity to delegate appropriately
  • Managerial - leadership ability
