Wood Applied Intelligence (AI) is currently recruiting for a Principal Automation Engineer with a strong track record as an Interface / Lead Engineer supporting effective delivery of the works in designated areas through the coordination of interfaces, monitoring, reporting of progress and resolution of problems. The position will be based in our Milan office in Italy

The Senior Interface Engineer will be an integral member of the AI Engineering team working with Milan Projects to provide general coordination of overall Automation activities including interface management between Owner, Vendor and Engineering Team

Responsibilities / Duties
  • Leading the team through the preparation, execution, and handover of completed Automation work scope
  • Supports Engineering sub - teams in distributing pertinent information from multiple process and package vendors
  • Represent as an Automation Lead to support the Milan Projects team with execution support and enquires
  • Coordinates with project discipline and senior engineers to ensure correct implementation of the design for their engineering specialty and coordinates the work of engineers within their specialty
  • Prepares and reviews project deliverable such as design drawings and documents and material and equipment specifications
  • Resolves specialty related engineering issues by applying accepted principles, codes, and standards
  • Produces Monthly Technical Progress Reports
  • Programme input and updates
  • Customer focal point, ensuring client satisfaction / requirements are addressed or met
  • Support the bid and estimating function especially for future phases of work
  • Supports RFQs and Requisitions for vendors
  • Supports project evaluation (Technical KPIs)
  • Mentoring ability for team members

Skills / Qualifications

  • Degree qualified Control / Instrument / Automation Engineering discipline with substantial experience
  • Must be fluent in English
  • Ability to speak / understand Italian would be an advantage, but not essential
  • Willingness to work in Milan, Italy
  • Experience in Oil and Gas / Chemical refining
  • Experience of working with EPC and end user organizations
  • Significant experience in delivering EPC projects with electrical, control and instrumentation portions of the project
  • Be able to review cable design, instrument datasheets, P&IDs, Cause and Effects etc
  • Understanding of SmartPLANT Instrument (SPI) software
  • Be technically sound and able to work mainly unsupervised in the preparation and / or review of ICSS design package deliverables such as technical specifications, calculations, reports, datasheets, schedules, single line diagrams, block cabling diagrams and associated ICSS documentation
  • Software development lifecycles associated with ICSS design, implementation, testing and commissioning
  • Be able to communicate clearly in the English language; both verbally and in the production of high - quality written documentation using MS Office applications
  • Have a confident Client - facing manner, and be diligent, confident, collaborative and highly motivated when working as part of a client's team, together with Wood colleagues, or independently
  • Be able to work accurately, flexibly and to integrate their work with other discipline areas, whilst working to tight programme and budget constraints
  • Be able to travel and visit operational works and construction sites as required, to act in a safe manner, and to asset survey, inspect, and witness test vendor packages and installations
  • Project documentation and change management methodologies

  • Current or previous experience as an Interface Engineer with EPC experience
  • Have some experience in coaching and mentoring junior team members and actively contribute to the technical development of skills throughout the wider UK team
  • Have supported scoping of work, identifying key tasks, packages and developing resourcing / time estimates
  • Be proficient in the use of SPI
