Duties & Responsibilities


The Engineering Manager oversees the entire engineering department and ensures the most effective means are being utilized to achieve customer satisfaction, and business unit goals tied to corporate strategic objectives. The Engineering Manager also ensures close interaction between various engineering disciplines to facilitate seamless execution. The specific job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Manage various engineering discipline managers including their training and development
  • Provide a vision to engineering and ensure adoption of new technologies as appropriate
  • Work closely with other functions like Quality, Manufacturing, B&P, and Program Management to drive process improvement initiatives in support of Oceaneering's Quality Tenets
  • Drive engineering excellence through objective means
  • Set short- and long-term objectives for engineering and ensure alignment with business unit strategy
  • Participate and provide input on technical needs to the annual planning process
  • Review and approve technical content of proposals
  • Ensure implementation and sustainment of engineering competency program
  • Participate in corporate Engineering Center of Excellence (ECOE) activities
  • Determine and communicate hiring needs in engineering (staffing, training, compensation) through close consultation with program management and bids & proposals. Consult with management on exceptional cases
  • Create and oversee the engineering training budget and individual development plans
  • Ensure availability of advanced engineering software tools and their upgrades
  • Ensure product development/enhancement (IRAD) projects are appropriately staffed and provide leadership and direction to these projects
  • Ensure consistent engineering practices and processes are followed across all disciplines
  • Create a leadership development and succession plan
  • Ensure product designs are compliant with safety and quality objectives of business unit
  • Additional duties as assigned


  • Bachelor's degree in any engineering discipline from an accredited institution. Commensurate experience will be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Minimum 15 years' relevant experience in Engineering
  • Minimum 8 years' leadership experience including management of cross functional teams
  • Comprehensive knowledge and overall understanding of integrated engineering systems
  • Formal training/experience in Engineering Management principles and Business Acumen
  • Experience working in a Manufacturing and Assembly environment
  • Ability to lead a diverse engineering team in a remote and hybrid working environment
  • Ability to obtain a US Government DOD Security Clearance
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Demonstrated ability to:
    • Create and convey an engineering vision to all stakeholders
    • Communicate effectively with business unit management
    • Manage and lead engineering organizational changes
    • Make decisions on complex issues
    • Manage conflicts. Prioritize and make decisions based on importance and urgency

  • Advanced degree in any engineering discipline or an MBA from an accredited institution
  • Knowledge and/or experience in subsea engineering
  • Knowledge and/or experience in tethered or untethered underwater vehicles
