Lead System Engineer - Customer Application Engineering (Subsea Production System)

Take ownership for project management

This role will be responsible for early technology engagement with the customers in China at early phase of their subsea production projects in order to increase Baker Hughes business opportunities by working closely with the Chinese customers to develop best system solution for their Subsea E&P projects. He/She will be the in-country technical focal point connecting the customers and global engineering organization along demand to inquiry stage covering customer concept, pre-FEED, FEED studies and tendering/quotes. He / she will work together with the regional commercial teams to manage customer interaction and drive system solutions to meet customer specifications by liaison with the system and Product Group application engineers within SPS and from other Baker Hughes Product Companies.

As a Lead Systems Engineer, you will be also responsible for below:
  • Working closely with customer technology group to build holistic and systematic view of customer needs and technical specification on their Subsea E&P projects to determine project feasibility, overall structure and product interfaces for a strong system offering
  • Leveraging the early customer engagement process to pro-actively set actionable customer strategies in order to maximize future commercial benefits for the customer and Subsea Systems
  • Coordinating the customer early engagement supports from Subsea global engineering CoEs and regional engineering hubs, responsible to drive the execution and outcome.
  • Developing system level technology solutions to customer projects by consolidating the product/offering across different Product Groups, influence customer specification development "spec-in" BH products from early development phase
  • Proposing system solutions to meet customer specifications during tenders.
  • Liaising with Sales, Commercial and Product functions during the pursuit and bid phases of a tender.
  • Taking a lead role in system offerings with respect to BH products, manages the systems integration and liaises with regional pursuit management teams
  • Coordinating with product management teams and application engineering teams to determine best product application for each opportunity including cross BH product supply
  • Being the System lead during the deal review process with Senior Leadership to ensure that all technical risk points and risk mitigation are properly incorporated in the development of the scope, cost and proposal
  • Having overall responsibility for system engineering deliverables for bids.
  • Estimating systems engineering and design man hour requirements for review by execution team.
  • Developing overall system engineering execution plan and testing philosophy for bid
  • Preparing and updating technical clarifications, qualification and risk registers
  • Collating and preparing preliminary and full Master Equipment Lists
  • Increasing Subsea Systems visibility in the market place through technical presentations to potential customers with a view to performing pre FEED & FEED studies

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Have Bachelor degree above in System / Mechanical / Electrical / Petroleum / Control Engineering or equivalent
  • Have minimum 10 years of experience in technical role of Oil & Gas Subsea E&P development
  • Have previous experience in Oil & Gas Subsea front-end customer engagement and tendering activities
  • Have In-depth technical knowledge of Subsea Production System and equipment including (at least two of the following): System Architecture / Flow Assurance, Trees, Controls, Manifolds and Subsea Connections, Subsea Power & Processing.
  • Be familiar with EPC projects from concept phase to delivered product
  • Be self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Have excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Have strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Have strong oral and written communications skills in both Mandarin and English
  • Be available to travel internationally for project needs and for short term assignments.
  • Have excellent organizational, follow-up, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Have experience working on international projects
  • Have strong project management skills: Ability to lead a team and manage technical personnel across all disciplines
  • Have industry knowledge / competitive landscape understanding
  • Have experience of working in a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Have experience in subsea oil & gas projects and operations, offshore experience is an advantage
  • Be able to interface effectively at all levels of the matrix organization and customers
  • Be able to manage and control multiple tasks and handle tasks with competing priorities effectively
  • Be comfortable in a fast-paced work environment, resilient & persistent under all circumstances
  • Have good understanding of internal sales and commercial functions within an organization
