Required Skills, Education, and Experience:

  • Associate degree or higher within the area of Fire Science, Industrial Safety, Industrial Hygiene or related degree or Industrial Emergency Specialist Certification or 5+ years serving as an Industrial Fire Chief.
  • Self-starter, ability to plan/organize tasks and consistently produce results with minimal supervision.
  • 2+ years of safety experience within chemical manufacturing industry.
  • 5+ years emergency response experience
  • 2+ years of emergency response experience in a leadership role within the fire services (professional or volunteer) or equivalent experience in an industrial fire brigade services.
  • Possesses a fundamental understanding of emergency response activities (firefighting, rescue, hazmat and medical) with an innate ability to remain calm in critical, high stress situations.
  • Ability to execute plans and to organize and resources to achieve desired outcomes
  • Exercises sound decision making, and judgement aligned with site objectives
  • Must have extensive knowledge of NIMS/ICS and ability to deliver NIMS/ICS training.
  • 2+ years of delivering training on Safety and Emergency Response topics to site teams. Ability to design, develop and implement training programs to meet all aspects of required regulatory training. (Procedures, Hazmat, Rope Rescue, Safety, etc.)
  • Demonstrated Knowledge of Federal and State (OSHA) Health, and Safety Regulations.
  • Knowledge of NFPA standards for inspection and testing of fire protection systems
  • 2+ years of demonstrated hands-on experience with Fire Protection System Program, i.e., fire extinguishers, fire water protection systems, fire suppression systems, fire detection and alarm systems. Ability to assess, identify and repair impaired/deficient fire protection systems.
  • Must be able to read and interpret fire water plot plans/maps, fire protection system schematics/designs and P&IDs.
  • 2+ years managing contractors for Safety and Emergency Response Equipment inspections and services: conduct pre-conferences, schedule, and oversee work.
  • Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, communication, and teambuilding skills.
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively lead, influence, and do work across organizational boundaries, which include maintenance, operations, capital, and contractors.
  • Proficient in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to develop PowerPoint presentations.
  • Must be available nights, weekends and as needed.
 

Preferred Skills, Education, and Experience:

 

  • Bachelor of Science in Fire Protection, Fire Science or Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent experienced in Chemical Manufacturing.
  • CFPS, OHST, SMS, CHMM, or relevant certifications a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience holding contractors accountable to schedule, cost, and quality.
  • Demonstrated entrepreneurial tendencies acting as a business owner for his/her area of responsibility.
  • Experience in SAP/Coupa a plus
  • Emergency Medical Technician or higher
 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Serves as site's SME for Emergency Response and Safety issues.
  • Supports the line organization, plant functional teams and contractors in the field via direct involvement in routine and non-routine work activities.
  • Be a visible presence in the field to promote good health and safety practices
  • Overall responsible for site emergency preparedness (Fire, spill, medical, natural)
  • Manages/Leads the site's Emergency Response Team (ERT) ensures the ERT is prepared to respond to emergency situations safely and effectively to minimize exposure to personnel, community, environment, and property.
  • Provide daily reports on all emergency response actions, including names of responders, supplies used, timing, future needs
  • Coordinates and/or delivers training for all emergency response team members
    • Fire Brigade training (annual fire school and monthly/quarterly training: exterior/interior, pump operations, hose handling, etc.)
    • In-house hazmat training to the Technician level per OSHA standard 29 CFR 1910.120
    • Confined Space Rescue Training/High Angle Rescue Training per OSHA 29 CFR 1910.146
    • Emergency Medical Responder training.
    • Refresher training in various safety topics as needed
    • ICS/EOC training
    • Develop testing and evaluation mechanisms for emergency response training curriculum and courses
    • Submit monthly ERT training KPIs
  • Manages the site's emergency response drill program in support of tactical emergency response preparedness. Assesses performance through debriefings, exercise critiques, and lessons learned.
  • Manage all Emergency Response inspections and repairs per OSHA requirements and NFPA guidelines.
  • Manages site's Fire Protection Equipment; fire water protection systems, fire suppression systems, fire detection systems, and fire safety equipment in order to ensure they are in a constant state of readiness. Oversee all inspections/repairs, recordkeeping and submit monthly inspection report KPIs.
  • Maintain, review and update Emergency Response Procedures as needed.
  • Initiate reports and conduct investigation of incident, near misses, false alarms etc. which occur with regard to Health and Safety sitewide. Identify corrective actions needed to rectify and conduct follow-up inspections to see if corrective actions have been taken.
  • Participates or leads incident investigations, ensure lessons learned are shared and that preventive actions are closed out and documented.
  • Manages and a member of the site's Hurricane/Inclement Weather team
  • Participates or coordinates formal and informal Safety & Health audits/assessments of safety, security, emergency response, facility and compliance related programs and procedures.
  • Manages the site's multi-gas meter program to include monitoring the gas meter web-data reports to identify equipment errors and high/low alerts. Relay critical data/information to operations to improve atmospheric testing/sampling activities. Oversee the distribution and repairs of all the site multi-gas meters.
  • Regularly works in SAP/COUPA to enter Purchase Requisitions and Purchase Orders.
  • Main point of contact for site's emergency response organization. Represents site at CIMA and LEPC monthly meetings.
  • Member of the site Emergency Response Team and certify as Emergency Medical Responder.
  • Additional duties as assigned
