Weatherford is currently seeking a Project Engineer - Hydraulics who is passionate about conceptualizing, developing, and deploying physics-based models to accurately characterize hydraulic processes taking place during well drilling and completion operations. The successful candidate will work with multiple domain experts to improve existing modeling solutions and create new solutions addressing energy industry challenges energy in a business-effective way.

  • Works on all aspects related to hydraulics engineering during the creation and delivery of physics-based modeling solutions for drilling and completion operations
  • Responsible for selecting and/or developing the optimum model(s) for characterization of drilling and completion hydraulic processes, including testing, validating, and benchmarking analytic solutions derived from the models
  • Shares expertise with peers and other domain experts sustaining an open collaborative environment focused on solving complex engineering problems
  • Works closely with other modelling engineers, software developers, product lines and management team to identify opportunities for improving the performance of existing modeling solutions
  • Works closely with other members of technical staff, product management, services, and management to evaluate third-party solutions and determines their applicability to existing modeling products
  • Develops and tunes static and time-dependent (transient) models for drilling and completion hydraulics
  • Leads the research in analytic and/or computational modeling of hydraulic systems applied to drilling and completion operations
  • Participates in technical seminars and writing technical papers
  • Participates in estimation, planning, and identification of risks and issues related to model accuracy and uncertainties
  • Partners and works with data scientists and other modeling engineers to create hybrid analytics solutions (physics plus AI/ML).
  • Mentors other Engineers in hydraulics modeling and simulation
  • Perform HR responsibilities including keeping up to date on competency, compliance, and mandatory training initiatives
  • Must understand and comply with all safety rules and company policies of Weatherford
  • Perform various other duties and activities as assigned by supervisor within the physical constraints of the job


  • Solid understanding of hydraulics modeling applied to the energy industry
  • Experience with steady-state and transient hydraulics modeling tools
  • Proven experience in developing physics-based solutions for hydraulic processes in the energy industry. This may include but is not limited to drilling hydraulics, hole cleaning, cuttings transport, fluid abrasion, multi-phase flow, non-linear rheologic models, proppant/gravel transport, etc.
  • Able to apply engineering principles and analysis to develop and improve physics-based solutions
  • Knowledge of oil and gas and energy industry data and problems to which modeling solutions can be applied to
  • Strong scientific and technical writing/presentations
  • Proven track record of technical publications
  • Experience with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills including conflict resolutions
  • Ability to manage multiple issues to successful resolution
  • Capability of working collaboratively in a team environment in person and remotely maintaining effective interactions with team members coming from a broad range of backgrounds both cultural and technical

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering (thermal or mechanical focus) or related technical subject area with a minimum of 10 years of related experience, PhD in similar disciplines with a minimum of 5 years of related experience preferred
