Overview

Saudi Aramco seeks an experienced engineer to join the Reservoir Engineering Technology Team at The Exploration and Petroleum Engineering Center - Advanced Research Center ( EXPEC ARC) in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. The objective is to perform Research & Development (R&D) on technologies relevant to sustainability including for example decarbonization and water management. The Engineer must be able to initiate and lead research projects involving multi-disciplinary team of scientists and engineers over a spectrum of relevant domains. Upstream sustainability R&D projects may cover carbon sequestration in oil and gas reservoirs, subterranean hydrogen production and storage, material conservation and conversion, as well as water production mitigation. Such R&D would require solid understanding of displacement mechanisms including fluid flow and trapping in porous media and an overall understanding of the upstream oil and gas value chain. Also, the Engineer should be familiar with the R&D lifecycle including economic, risk, and uncertainty analyses of R&D projects as well as the design and implementation of field pilots.

EXPEC ARC's mission is to provide technologies for the company's and upstream strategic goals including the increase of hydrocarbon discovery and recovery, as well as the maintenance of cost-effective, and sustainable long-term production reliability. The Reservoir Engineering research team is working at the leading edge on topics related to IOR, carbon footprint reduction, nanotechnology, pore-scale physics, formation evaluation, and deep diagnostics.

Key Responsibilities

You will be required to perform the following

Perform original and leading-edge research in carbon footprint reduction technologies under the circular carbon economy's framework and its 4R pillars: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Remove.

Drive high-impact low carbon intensity solutions and generate far-reaching ideas that improve upstream operational efficiency.

Lead R&D programs. Form and lead multi-disciplinary technical teams. Initiate collaborative research with others, both within and outside the company.

Lead design and implementation of pilot projects, throughout the various phases including for example upscaling and simulation, design of surface facilities, and pilots execution.

Help building state-of-the-art research capabilities and laboratories.

Guide and mentor young professionals in their technical and professional development.

Participate in technical societies and represent Aramco on industry committees.

Minimum Requirements

As a successful candidate, you

Hold a BS degree in Petroleum Engineering or Chemical, Energy Resources, or Environmental Engineering. Higher degrees are preferable.

Have a minimum of ten (10) years' work experience in a substantive industrial, research, and technology development relevant to upstream.

Must have at least five (5) years' work experience in a substantive industrial, research, and technology development relevant to sustainability.

Have worked on projects that have contributed to the reduction of carbon footprint.

Have a strong commitment to safety and excellent communication skills. Excellent in research evidenced by contribution in R&D projects, technical publications, and granted patents.

Have knowledge and familiar with upstream data management and analytics tools such as AI/machine learning is a plus.
