Responsibilities

Summary of Duties:

This position is the lead acoustic scientist for the US Wireline RDE group, focused on cased hole acoustic sensing. Responsible for support of the US Manufacturing Group, support WISE as a subject matter expert (SME), provide sustaining engineering support for all acoustic cased hole services, lead the development of the next generation of the existing cased hole offerings, and research new options for cased hole acoustic sensing modes and answer products. Assist in the development of optical systems for downhole analysis. Lead the development of acoustic tool, sensor, and service specifications. Lead and collaborate on technical project planning for projects in the primary discipline. Lead tool response and sensor development projects in the primary discipline (acoustics/ultrasonics). Lead and collaborate with Geoscience Development on new cased hole acoustic/ultrasonic answer products and signal processing methodologies. Supplies strategic guidance to the product line for long term acoustic/ultrasonic development efforts. Serve as Subject Matter Expert for field operations (GPL, WISE) focused on addressing data quality, tool response issues and related operational concerns. Aid with optics and photonics sensor development projects. Technical writing. Internal reports. Peer-reviewed publications. Professional Society Presentations and Proceedings. Manufacturing support documentation. Field Operations support documentation, including training material. Collaborate on technical project planning in projects outside the primary discipline. Present technical findings to a wide range of audiences. Technical staff. Scientific peers. Management (RDE and product line). Mentoring of staff (scientific, engineering, manufacturing) on acoustics, ultrasonics, optics, and spectroscopy. Serve as a scientific resource for experimental planning, data analysis and technical writing for the research group. Interface with client's technical staff in area of primary discipline.

Qualifications

  • PH.D in Physics, Acoustics, or Optics AND Five (5) Year of experience in the job offered or related occupation. In lieu of a PH.D in Physics, Acoustics, or Optics AND Five (5) Year of experience, the employer will also accept a Master's degree in Physics, Acoustics or Optics AND Eight (8) Years of experience in the job offered or related occupation. In addition, applicants must have demonstrated experience in the following:
    • Acoustics and ultrasonic.
    • Acoustic wave propagation
    • Sound propagation in the downhole environment.
    • Acoustic and ultrasonic transducer design and operation
    • Diffraction spectroscopy, spectroscopy, and optics.
    • Advanced data analysis program (Origin, OriginPro, or MiniTab
    • MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
    • 2D acoustic/ultrasonic simulation
    • 3D acoustic/ultrasonic simulation
    • MATLAB
    • Experimental planning
