This senior Media & Public Relations Leader role will be accountable for leading media relations for Baker Hughes globally to build and enhance Baker Hughes' reputation and commercial objectives with key external audiences. The successful candidate will lead day-to-day media relations for the company, owning and managing key journalist relationships and being the primary point of contact for media inquiries .

As a Media & Public Relations Leader, you will be responsible for:

  • Managing the interaction with journalists from International/National/Trade media by defining and preparing press kits, writing trade articles, or coordinating the writing of articles, managing media training, organizing press events and leading crisis communications.
  • Overseeing media inquiries and developing statements and responses on behalf of the company.
  • Acting as a day-to-day leader for media relations for the company, coordinating with regional and product company communications managers to ensure alignment on the company's interaction with journalists.
  • Leading media relations strategy for Baker Hughes, prioritizing key journalist relationships with global, national and trade media, as well as coordinating with digital and social media teams.
  • Overseeing the company's press release approval process and announcement strategies, working closely with the product companies to develop key stories.
  • Leading media storytelling to support Baker Hughes' transition to an energy technology and industrial company, securing key media story placement outside of the traditional oilfield services and equipment sector.
  • Leading external affairs reporting activities, including "line of sight" reporting for upcoming activities.
  • Acting as primary contact for crisis issues with the media, as well as supporting key materials including holding statements, etc.
  • Partnering with investor relations team and VP of External Affairs to ensure financial communications are aligned with company's storytelling.
  • Enhancing the capabilities of the existing business spokespeople (and developing new ones as needed) for executive positioning and training.
  • Acting as a company ambassador, helping to build relationships between Baker Hughes leaders and key influencers, including media, educating, and maintaining awareness of key community issues within the company and managing appropriate responses.

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Have a bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college
  • Have a minimum of 7+ years of experience in media relations and journalist management, with international experience, strongly preferred, as well as direct experience with Tier 1 media including (but not limited to) Reuters, Bloomberg, Wall Street Journal, Axios, Financial Times, or similar publications.
  • Have rigorous attention to detail.
  • Have extensive writing skills and proven media relations writing experience.
  • Have proven experience managing a team and delegating responsibilities to encourage strong team efficiency.
  • Have proven experience in public relations in multiple sectors, especially outside of the oilfield services and equipment sector to focus on the broader energy and industrial sectors.
  • Have experience with journalists in technology, environmental, ESG and industrial sectors are highly desired.
  • Have a good understanding of measurement and evaluation in communications
  • Be able to develop and implement communication campaigns.
  • Be able to maintain clear processes and multi-task given the unpredictability of the media landscape.
  • Be able to work extended hours on a limited basis due to the global nature of business and media deadlines (early mornings at least 1-2x/month).
  • Be able to work from home with a broadband internet connection (at least 100MB/second) and quiet workspace due to long-term COVID-19 social distancing policies.
