Summary

The Electrical Systems Specialist is responsible for overseeing the complete wiring of the rig electrical installations, including the follow through with the start-up and commissioning of the rigs' electrical systems. This position will be overseeing approximately 15-40 contractors I/C personnel.

 

Responsibilities

  • Supervising the electrical drives and controls installation and commissioning of a multi-rig build project;
  • Assisting with the design of future AC drilling rig drive and electrical systems;
  • Creating electrical schematics using AutoCAD as well as correcting and producing "Red Lines";
  • Performing various power calculations (short circuit studies, arc flash analysis, cable sizing, etc.);
  • Developing accurate materials lists;
  • Assisting with product procurement and purchasing of electrical material;
  • Guiding the electrical team during rig construction; and,
  • Ensuring Precision's wiring preferences are meet and maintained

 

Knowledge & Skills

Familiar with the assembly of drilling rig drive houses

Experience with Electric Motor Controls, VFD interconnects

Full Knowledge of Power Generation, Distribution and Generator Control Systems

Experience with Microsoft Windows and Associated Office Applications (MS Word, Excel, Lotus Notes, Auto Cad)

Working knowledge of the pertaining API electrical practices in relation to land-based drilling rigs

Superior attention to detail

Ability to multitask

Willingness to take ownership of projects/tasks that arise

Committed to safe work practices

Good communication skills both verbal and written

Ability to work well with others while under minimal supervision

 

Experience

High School diploma/GED Completion

8 years industry experience Electrical Technician/Technologist or equivalent certification

8 years of experience working with drilling rig equipment

Minimum of 5 years history with rig construction electrical in a foreman or manager position is a must

Extensive knowledge of the Amphion systems.
