Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is seeking a Process Technology Specialist to join our Heavy Oil Process Technology team in Houston, TX.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execution of process design work on on Delayed Coking, Solvent Deasphalting and/or Visbreaking process units new and revamp projects.
  • Apply process knowledge and experience on Delayed Coking, Solvent Deasphalting and/or Visbreaking process units where issues and factors to be considered may be characterized by unusual demands and requires additional analysis to determine the nature and scope of the problem
  • Functions as a technical specialist developing applications, hypothesis, approaches and concepts which require extensive interpretation, judgment and ingenuity
  • Develop work plans and project schedules and assist in developing hours estimates and scoping efforts for proposals and projects
  • Expected to develop, evaluate and recommend solutions for broadly defined problems performing work and making decisions independently
  • Assist and make recommendations in product design and work process improvements
  • Assist with ensuring the process calculations and deliverables are properly filed in the project and process filing systems
  • Prepare the preparation of proposal and contract design calculations, drawings and other engineering documentation using organizational standards, practices and codes
  • Work effectively with project team to provide assistance to Customers, other Engineering Disciplines, Equipment Suppliers and Commercial Group regarding process related information
  • Assist in the development and mentor-ship of younger engineers on projects assigned

Skills / Qualifications

  • BS in Chemical Engineering is required, Masters in Chemical Engineering is preferred
  • PE (Professional Engineer) license preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in practice of Process Design
  • 5+ years of experience with the design and/or operation of Heavy Oil Process Units such as Delayed Coking Units, Solvent Deasphalting Units and Visbreaking Units.
  • Must have experience with the development of process design packages deliverables such as simulation modeling, equipment datasheets, P&ID development, relief valve calculations
  • Demonstrated general knowledge regarding work of other engineering disciplines
  • Working knowledge of alternative, advanced principles and techniques of process engineering
  • Advanced knowledge of competing and alternative design techniques
  • Solid awareness of trends and economic conditions affecting the technical field and understanding of economic factors affecting the business (i.e. costs, margins, profit impact of decisions made)
  • Demonstrated ability to apply advanced laws, principles, theorems and mathematics or industry knowledge in the improvement and development of designs
  • Demonstrated skills in persuasion, negotiation, motivation and communication
  • Demonstrated proficiency in mentoring and project planning
  • Ability to assist in developing engineering work processes and procedures
  • A history of consistently demonstrating creativity and innovation in finding solutions and alternatives
  • Ability to execute and oversee assigned project scope, budget and schedule by prioritizing work activities and managing Process project staff
  • Advanced computer skills with MS Office programs and familiarity with process simulation software (Hysys, PROII, or equivalent)
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for inter-departmental and external company interaction
  • Effective internal and customer presentation skills and technical publication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily
  • Listens to others, learns, and asks questions or seeks technical assistance when necessary only on extremely unusual or complex problems
  • Ability to maintain regular attendance as per work schedule agreed with manager (may require working an adjusted work schedule based on project assigned and work overtime if warranted)
  • Authorization to lawfully work in the United States without sponsorship from Wood is required

Work Environment
  • Typically spends 90% of time in an office environment
  • Travel may be required, both domestic and international for technical meetings/conferences, project meetings and/or visits to site, client's office, production facility or industrial area
  • When visiting client's facilities, there may be environmental exposures including noise, fumes, outdoor or extreme weather conditions
