Job Title: Back End Software Engineer--FWI

Job Description
The Schlumberger Back End Software Engineer develops the back end of a web application, i.e. handling
the logic, database interactions, user authentication, configuration, etc. The Developer evaluates emerging
technologies and provides strategic innovative and cost-effective engineering solutions to increase
efficiency, reliability and integration of Schlumberger services and operations, working in a semiautonomous environment where fast prototyping emerging technologies to solve industry-related problems is the rule. The position reports to the software project manager.

Responsibilities as part of our industry-leading FWI and imaging team include:
  • Research and develop new algorithms in seismic imaging, inversion and earth model building
  • Adapt recent innovations from computing technology and applied mathematics into seismic inversion applications
  • Investigate and ensure the geophysical integrity of our software as it is developed and commercialized
  • Optimize new and existing production software to ensure ongoing high performance on cutting-edge hardware
  • Present results at internal and external conferences and at client meetings
  • Provide support to commercialization and operational teams

Job requirements:

  • PhD in Computational Physics/Applied Math/Geophysics or equivalent knowledge level.
  • Strong background in applied mathematics/physics/geophysics, especially in inverse problems, numerical inversion, numerical simulation, linear and nonlinear solvers, and optimization.
  • Experience programming for high performance computing environments using C++ and CUDA, including parallel computing, performance profiling and CPU/GPU optimization.
  • Good oral and written communication skills
