Reporting operationally to the Project Manager, the purpose of the role is to provide timely advice and guidance on all Health, Safety, Security and Environmental matters across the project lifecycle. Functionally reporting to the local Senior HSSE Manager, the successful candidate will also form part of the Wood Operations EMEA - HSSE Team and therefore have access to an extensive support network.

Ideally, the successful candidate should be immediately available and residing in the North East of England.

We would particularly like to hear from candidates with a passion for effective HSSE management and a keen eye for continual improvement combined with a tenacious and results focussed approach. As a team leader, you need to be trustworthy and approachable with a positive 'can do' attitude. This role will very much suit candidates who are committed to and take self-satisfaction from making a difference.

  • Providing support to Project Management with incident investigations through the use of an appropriate root cause analysis tool, as relevant to the actual / potential severity (e.g. 5 Why, Helix or Taproot)
  • Monitoring 'best-practice' and 'lessons learned' from across the wider organisation and external environment ensuring relevant opportunities are captured and embedded into the project HSSE arrangements.
  • Support the project managers with the development of an effective risk-based assurance program and participate as required.
  • Ensure HSSE support is provided to the approval and selection of sub-contractors / suppliers including input into ITT documents and bid evaluations.
  • Establish a project performance monitoring program including key performance indicators, ensuring the provision of support to senior Managers and HSE Advisors in the timely reporting of both leading and lagging HSE Indicators.
  • Undertaking leading / lagging indicator reviews to identify trends and providing timely advice to senior Project & Function Management on required actions to address associated risks and opportunities.
  • Ensure a project specific HSSE induction program is developed and that inductions are delivered to new employees / contractors deployed onto the project.
  • In consultation with relevant internal and external stakeholders develop an effective incident and emergency response plan for the construction area.
  • Ensure project environmental aspects / impacts are understood and mitigated in line with company policy, legal and client requirements.
  • Recruit a subordinate HSSE team as required by the project and provide effective line management, mentoring and development to subordinates.
  • Identify and establish productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders (particularly client stakeholders) ensuring their needs are met and project benefit is leveraged.
