Wood provides environmental, materials science, geotechnical consulting and infrastructure engineering services to private and public sector clients worldwide.

Wood currently has an opportunity for a Junior/Intermediate Process Wastewater Operations Support role in the Process Water/Wastewater Group, servicing an ongoing project in the Port Hope, Ontario area. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising the operation of a remediation water treatment system (WTS), reporting system performance metrics to members of senior management, working with the Operations Contractor to resolve any issues with the treatment process, and exercising the authority to stop discharge if necessary.

The candidate will be expected to attend the project site daily, and supervise the operation of the WTS. Wood was responsible for the design of the WTS, and the system will be operated by an Operations Contractor. The successful candidate will supervise daily operation, collect and report operational data and assist in troubleshooting.

The candidate will be expected to work with Senior Engineers, Subject Matter Experts, project managers and project engineers as necessary, to support the long-term successful operation of the WTS. Periodically, the candidate may be required to support other projects at the project site. The candidate will primarily work from the Site Office located at the WTS, with occasional trips to the Port Hope office.

The candidate will be supported by resources from the Process Water/Wastewater group from across Canada. The Process Water/Wastewater Group is a small, tight-knit group of industry professionals, with team members ranging from 30 years experience, to less than one. The team provides specialized design services for clients with unique challenges, with project locations across the globe. The team has expertise in traditional physical-chemical, aerobic, and anaerobic wastewater treatment, as well as emerging contaminants and practices, including the treatment of PFAS, and the development of renewable natural gas resources from waste digestion.

Skills / Qualifications

The candidate will possess an undergraduate degree in civil, chemical, or environmental engineering. The candidate will have between 2 and 10 years of industry experience, with demonstrated experience in the operation of water/wastewater treatment systems. The ideal candidate will:
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Possess a robust common-sense approach to problem solving
  • Be meticulous, thoughtful, and detail-oriented
  • Possess a strong technical background in water/wastewater engineering and experience in industrial sectors, including: food processing, mining, automotive, chemical, pharmaceutical, metal finishing, petroleum, and general manufacturing
  • Be registered as an Operator-in-Training, or possess a Wastewater Operator's License
  • Be self-motivated and proactive
  • Be enthusiastic to engage with the team

Additional desirable qualifications include:
  • Experience managing projects, clients, and teams
  • Advanced degree in engineering (Masters or PhD)
  • Bilingual (French and English)
