Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is seeking a Senior Mechanical Designer to work within multi -disciplinary teams of Engineers and Architects on technically challenging projects and complex design problems with a focus on providing sustainable, resilient, and energy efficient solutions. The mechanical designer will be responsible for layout of equipment, ductwork, and piping to facilitate good equipment access and performance. This position requires working with structural and electrical engineers and architects to coordinate mechanical systems with other trades. Projects include building restoration, renovation, and new construction in commercial, municipal, federal, and industrial sectors. Examples of recent projects include highly secure radar facilities, combined heat and power (CHP) plants, hospital renovations, office renovations, industrial warehouses and maintenance facilities, geothermal system designs, and upgrades to HVAC systems in historic buildings.

Our Portland team is made up of a multi-disciplinary engineering/architecture/science team of 150+ staff, located in one of the most livable cities in the US. Wood offers the technical and innovative challenges of projects located throughout the US, while also having the structure, resources, and opportunities of a large global organization. This position will primarily work in an office/home office setting but may require occasional travel to client facilities in support of business development and project-related activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop complete mechanical drawing designs using AutoCAD and Revit
  • Outline, set up, organize, and maintain project drawings according to applicable standards
  • Plan, detail, and schedule work and final delivery of drawings
  • Mentor and supervise junior design staff
  • Perform a variety of additional tasks which may include calculations, load modeling, and field work
  • Interact with coworkers, clients, and prospective clients while conducting work in a professional and ethical manner


Skills / Qualifications

  • Associates degree preferable
  • 5 years (minimum) of experience employed as a mechanical designer
  • Strong technical background in HVAC, piping, ductwork, and plumbing design
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, and Navisworks
  • Understanding of all phases of engineering document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications
  • Ability to work independently and in a multi-disciplinary team environment with minimal supervision
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting, engage in creative and critical thought, and effectively communicate concepts and ideas to others
  • Ability to pass a drug test and background check
