Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently seeking a Director of Wireless Telecommunications Operations for Canada; prefered location is Ontario, but alternative locations will be considered.

The Director of Wireless Operations is responsible for providing the leadership, project management, direction, and tactical execution of field installation, service, and P&L of all projects. The Director of Wireless Operations will be responsible for deploying multi-vendor equipment and technologies.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • The responsibilities of this position encompass managing and directing the activities of the wireless staff to ensure the highest level of system performance, quality of work, and customer experience.
  • Provide leadership and innovative ideas in the wireless technology space in order to drive sales and business development.
  • Train and develop wireless staff and ensures programs are in place to appropriately develop the knowledge and skills of technical employees in support of the company's objectives.
  • Provide aggressive leadership in the deployment and implementation of multi-vendor 5G networks.
  • Provide leadership and direction to staff in the day-to-day operation of the department as well as plans to drive high network performance.
  • Develop and implements performance standards, establishes goals and priorities, and ensures all functions are carried out consistently in manner that is aligned with and in accordance with company policies/procedures and FCC standards as well as local, state and federal regulatory requirements.
  • Resolve problems with internal and external customers, ensuring appropriate action from field operations employees and contractors.
  • Manages, measures, and ensures the overall effective outcome of work quality.
  • Assist in developing and monitors operational and capital budgets.
  • Provide reports as required.
  • Develop working relationships and collaborates with other departments to ensure the successful operation as well as the overall business.
  • Motivate staff to achieve a common goal to achieve company objectives.
  • Cultivate a positive and respectful work environment through employee education, positive reinforcement, modeling the behavior, providing adequate work tools and administering policies fairly and consistently.
  • Implement new technology for the wireless network including high-speed data, wireless as a primary or back up service, and other wireless services.
  • Work with the Purchasing Group and the warehouse to coordinate arrival, and deployment of Wireless equipment.
  • Coordinate and direct projects, making detailed plans to accomplish goals and directing the activities of the projects
  • Monitor and stay abreast of new technological, legal and operational changes that affect the activities and work processes associated with the various projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Skills / Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business management, engineering, computer science, electronics or related field from four-year college or university or equivalent industry experience. Masters of Business Administration (preferred).
  • 10 years of wireless network operations, technology, and management experience.
  • Experience in wireless communications technologies, architecture, and site development.
  • Must have solid work experience in budgeting, operational planning, and leadership development.
  • Ability to handle various tasks simultaneously organizes, prioritizes, make decisions and work efficiently and effectively under deadlines.
  • Ability to express oneself in a clear, concise and organized manner both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to think through a problem, analyze and break it down into parts to resolve or come up with a logical solution.
  • Ability to function under considerable levels of stress.
  • Ability to deal with irate or difficult customers and/or potential customers as well as perform root cause analysis and recommend process changes to prevent future customer frustrations.
  • 10 years of experience managing telecommunications network implementation and operations as well as a team/staff
  • 3 years in a senior management leadership position.
  • Experience working with multiple teams in a union workforce environment is preferred.
