Overview / Responsibilities

The People & Organization (P&O) Manager is accountable for developing and implementing the P&O strategy for their area of responsibility in support of P&O compliance. This role leads the delivery of the people agenda in their area of regional responsibility with support from Senior P&O Managers in non-US countries.

This role will serve as a key advisor and leading a team of subject matter experts on policy, employee relations and governmental reporting matters to provide guidance to all levels of a matrixed organization, resolving highly complex, confidential, and sensitive matters in creative and effective ways. Proactively assesses risk and seeking counsel to advise leadership on best practices and procedures through effective risk mitigation management to significantly reduce liabilities. Responsible for the analysis and outcome of employee relation matters decisions which can have a significant impact on business operations. Provides consultation and resolution of employee relation issues that promote fair and just culture treatment and the consistent application of organizational policies and applicable government regulations. This role will be responsible for overseeing the dispute resolution process; including oversight of investigations, resolutions of complaints, leader training, and recommend appropriate strategies in order to resolve any conflicts between parties involved.

This role is responsible owning and managing P&O policies and procedures for the region; including monitoring of changes in regulatory landscape to ensure compliance with governmental requirements, filings, and reporting. Also responsible for employee background, drug, alcohol, and fitness for duty screening procedures and vendor management based on country and/ or client requirements.

The role drives people priorities, leads change management, and mitigates risk through effective employee and industrial relations.

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities include:
  • Influence and lead the P&O compliance team for the entire employee/ industrial relations process related to P&O investigations and compliance matters. Build robust capability and provide appropriate development of the team.
  • Counsel to the operations leadership team on people related issues, forming robust stakeholder relationships within the business and functions.
  • Plan and execute the delivery of the regional P&O compliance strategy with the aim of bringing P&O closer to the business as trusted advisors, in support of short and long term goals including future growth aspirations.
  • Responsible for regional policy design and standards; including exception request process, review, and approvals.
  • Oversight of governmental response for employee inquiries, audits, and reporting per regional legislative/regulatory requirements.
  • Proactively monitor P&O risk and make recommendations to mitigation exposure based on company data trends.
  • Ensure support of global P&O projects and actively influence and contribute to regional project plans and delivery.
  • Responsible for developing high quality leadership throughout their business area, aligned to Wood culture, values and behaviours.
  • Overseeing all P&O investigations for the region, complaint resolution, offering support, solutions and alternatives in order to resolve workplace conflicts.
  • Directs P&O vice presidents and leaders in management of grievances and complaint resolution processes, as well as hearings, arbitrations and unfair practice charge matters.

Internal: P&O vice presidents, leadership teams, ethics & compliance, legal, HSSEA, all employees and leaders

External: External legal counsel, vendors, local working groups/industry bodies.

  • Bachelor's degree in legal, HR related, or business management area - required

Job specific experience:
  • Experience in business partner role with strong concentration in employee relations (minimum of 7+ years) within a dynamic & highly matrixed organization
  • Progressive recent experience in a employee relations function for a complex organization
  • Advanced knowledge of the principles of advocacy, employment law, including applicable and continually updated state and federal laws, court decisions regarding employment related matters
  • Demonstrated experience providing consultation and resolution of employee relations issues to promote fair treatment and the consistent application of organizational policies and applicable federal/state laws
  • Demonstrated ability to handle extremely sensitive, difficult or volatile situations/individuals effectively
  • Ability to exercise a high degree of judgment in recommending and developing solutions, programs, and strategies related to employee relations and to understand the interrelationship of such programs in other areas of human resources and the organization
  • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills to partner with other departments and subject matter experts to deliver collaborative and successful outcomes on complicated issues
  • Demonstrated highly effective written and verbal communication skills to develop productive working relationships with colleagues; to establish credibility with all levels of leadership; to work in a highly collaborative manner at all levels across the organization; to develop and articulate customer service vision and mission and communicate them to internal and external customers; and to successfully present complex material to senior leaders
  • Highly knowledgeable in people practices and US Federal and State employment legislations
  • Experience of managing change, including working cooperatively in business partnership
  • Highly proficient on use of independent judgement to analyze, recommend solutions and resolve complex issues
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft office suite of applications
