Our client is looking for a Surveyor for a contract position, located in Aberdeenshire


  • Highly transverse role providing support to the Lead Surveyor in delivering positioning services, laser scanning, geophysical & geotechnical surveys to all Assets, Projects, Drilling & Wells and Exploration
  • Support verification of all survey and positioning data
  • Support management of survey and positioning data, including implementation into GIS and communication of positioning information to Third Parties (e.g. UKHO, FishSafe, BEIS, etc.).
  • Ensures survey deliverables to Company are to the required standards
  • Ensures compliance with associated Company Technical Standards, legislative and regulatory HSE requirements for all operations
  • Acts as Lead Surveyor Deputy as required

The Surveyor has the following main areas of responsibility:

  • Provision of technical expertise within geodesy, surveying and positioning disciplines to the Business;
  • Provision of project planning and project management for Offshore & Onshore survey operations in support to Projects, Exploration, Drilling, Construction and Operational activity.
  • Provision of project management for Offshore & Onshore survey operations in support to exploration, drilling, construction and operational activity.


  • Assisting Lead Surveyor in day to day management and administration of multiple survey contracts across multi-departmental spend, including but not limited to scheduling, cost management, operational efficiency and data quality.
  • Specification, tendering and project management of positioning, laser scanning, Drilling Hazard Site Surveys (DHSS), pipeline route surveys and geotechnical site investigations in compliance with legislative & regulatory requirements, Group Specifications, Company Rules, Policies and Procedures, and industry recommended best practices.
  • Routine management of the activities of project surveyors, third-party contractors, offshore QC supervisors and consultants.
  • Organising HAZID and HIRA for managed survey activities and managing risks & opportunities on assigned projects.
  • Under direction of Lead Surveyor collaborating with geoscientists, engineers and other departments within company to ensure the cost effective acquisition of geophysical and geotechnical data appropriate to the drilling, construction and subsea installation activities being undertaken by company.
  • Support Lead Surveyor in ensuring that the spatial data acquired and used to support operations meets the Corporate geomatics standards.
  • Support Lead Surveyor in ensuring consistent QC/QA process is implemented for all Geomatics data, including but not limited to acquisition, reporting and archiving.
  • Support Lead Surveyor in Ensuring that all Geomatics data under custody of Geomatics team complies with the OGA requirements re. data governance.
  • Assisting with the provision of inspection works across operated Assets.
  • Budget responsibility, definition of required scopes of work, contract management.
  • Pursuing continual improvement of geodetic, surveying and positioning methodology in line with technological developments and industry standards and practices.
  • Engaging with supply chain to review new technologies and their applicability to company needs.


  • Previous technical experience in the offshore oil industry in a similar role, preferably for an O&G Operator
  • Engineering or Science Degree in Earth sciences / geosciences (engineering geology, geophysics, soil / rock mechanics, surveying/positioning, hydrographic surveying...)
  • Professional qualification: MRICS geomatics division
  • Experienced project manager of offshore and onshore survey operations (drilling hazard site surveys, pipeline route surveys, subsea installation, onshore seismic surveys) in the UK and overseas
  • Knowledge and experience of shallow hazards to drilling operations and shallow geology affecting conductor installation
  • Knowledge and experience of environmental and permit requirements for offshore North Sea operations
  • Knowledge and experience in management of survey data including quality control, storage, retrieval and presentation systems
  • Knowledge and experience of GIS and application of mapping technology to enhance exploration and development activities.
  • Knowledge and experience of planning and management of deformation and subsidence monitoring operations
