Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is looking for a highly motivated, energetic and strategic thinking Engineering Project Lead. Reporting to the Engineering Manager and interface with project engineers and other engineering discipline leads in engineering delivery from 'Define' and 'Execute' phase across Brunei Shell Petroleum Offshore Facilities Rejuvenation contract.

Role involves interfacing, leading, coordinating, communicating, and supporting Wood's engineering goals. Responsible for ensuring quality and timely engineering deliverables to support project delivery. Also responsible for managing interfaces between engineering and project delivery team ensuring high quality delivery performance.

Lead, coordinate and interface with project engineers to deliver engineering scope in compliance with project schedule, quality and approved budget.

The candidate must have project engineering and planning experience preferably with practical engineering experience in major brownfield environment across portfolio of projects. In addition, knowledge in project controls with commercial awareness are also preferred.

Quality assurance


  • Coordinate the delivery of engineering deliverables embedding the Wood 'right size solution' philosophy by coordinating and liaising with other engineering disciplines and project delivery team as well as with the client
  • Provide oversight and compliance with agreed engineering scopes, technical proposal, and contract requirements
  • Provide steer to engineering disciplines on compliance with contract execution plan, checking procedures and checklists

Risk management



  • Identify, assess, and mitigate engineering delivery risks throughout the life cycle of the engineering delivery phase from work initiation until completion to ensure threat against base scope, approved schedule and budget are not compromised
  • Attend and participate project risk meeting to review and provide critical input throughout the life cycle of the project and ensure timely closure of risk identified during engineering phase of the project
  • Provide oversight and assurance on compliance with contract risk management plan throughout the engineering delivery life cycle

Change Management



  • Support to provide oversight and assurance of changes on engineering scope, schedule and budget to ensure compliance with contract procedures and processes
  • Support to review and monitor timely closure of change management process associated with engineering deliverables, delivery schedules and budget to ensure effect on project management deliverables
  • Review weekly Change Alert (CA) report and resolve closure and action of open CA's associated with schedule impact and project change notice (PCN) with project delivery team and project control & planning team

Planning and Cost Control



  • Provide oversight and assurance of the integrity of baseline schedule in terms of correctness of basis and assumptions, resource availability, budget adequacy and correctness of sequencing of activities to meet its objective
  • Provide oversight and assurance of targeted minimum level of weekly resource productivity across all engineering disciplines and work centres to ensure forecast of schedule overrun is addressed
  • Provide oversight and assurance of weekly budget accrual across all engineering disciplines and work centres to ensure forecast of budget overspent is addressed
  • Evaluate and identify risks and mitigation in supporting engineering baseline schedule development during schedule build session as well as review correctness of basis of engineering schedule document
  • Ensure compliance with integrated activity planning guidelines and readiness of engineering disciplines in attending the session

Continuous Improvement



  • Support to lead, promote and implement functional lessons learned on project across the portfolio
  • Support the development of engineering delivery excellence key initiatives as part of the continuous improvement process
  • Support effort in perfecting and innovating existing delivery process to support meeting the annual operational key result area
  • Support the development, implementation and oversight of continuous improvement plan associated with engineering deliverables, risk and change managements objectives

Other roles and responsibilities that are equally important for this position are:



  • Primary interface and coordination focal between project engineers and engineering discipline leads across Brunei and other work centres
  • Lead and coordinate technical assurance audit within engineering across Brunei and other locations
  • Lead activity readiness for global operational assurance audit annually by Wood corporate
  • Lead activity readiness and review of engineering proposal at 'Define' and 'Execute' phase of project delivery to strengthen proposal integrity
  • Act as project lead for package equipment that involves multidiscipline involvement as instructed by engineering manager
  • Support annual review and updates of functional and interface Contract Management documents
  • Collate, review, and report key successes and challenges within engineering
  • Support in the development of functional brief on key weekly activities
  • Participate in weekly project progress and procurement status meeting
  • Support local talent development targets
  • Evaluation of staff capabilities and identifying development and training needs
  • Perform annual appraisal of staff performance
  • Maintaining and promoting Wood Values and Behaviors
  • Promote high level of safety awareness and compliance with contract HSSE Plan, procedures and standards

  • Proven experience in leading engineering delivery in a multicultural environment
  • Possess strong knowledge in offshore oil & gas 'Define' and 'Execute' engineering phase projects particularly in major brownfield environment
  • Possess strong knowledge and proficiency in project engineering and management as well planning in FEED and EPC environment
  • Possess the experience in Engineering, Fabrication, Procurement, Offshore Construction and Commissioning would be advantageous
  • Possess strong knowledge in scope and commercial management
  • Possess the ability to lead other engineering discipline leads in challenging environment and ability to influence others in making positive change
  • Possess well-developed management and administrative skills
  • Organized with attention to detail, credible and decisive
  • Excellent time management skill
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication as well as presentation skills
  • Strong leadership skill
  • Computer literate and proficiency in MS Office Suites ; Outlook, Power Point, Excel, Word, etc


Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent


More than 15 years in Oil & Gas with a good blend of engineering discipline delivery, project engineering and management as well planning
