Prepare samples, conduct lab tests, document results and generate reports. Support materials engineering group and product lines in activities related to development and sustaining projects, failure analysis, product and manufacturing support.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Prepare metallic and non-metallic samples for testing, including but not limited to compression molding of elastomer samples, cutting/mounting/polishing metal and elastomer-metal bond samples
  • Conduct materials lab testing including but not limited to elastomer and metal properties, elastomer/fluid compatibility and metal to elastomer bond tests
  • Support materials engineering team and product lines in test requests for development projects, product support, and failure analysis
  • Document test results and findings in an accurate and consistent manner; keep materials testing and failure databases and tracking logs up to date
  • Prepare test reports and inspection reports
  • When required coordinate third party lab testing. Keep track of costs and results in database
  • Create and implement lab test work instructions when required
  • Establish safe working habits and environmental awareness and observe all safety requirements and procedures of the job; informs management of any safety policy violations or potential safety hazards through the Hazard Identification process.
  • Troubleshoot testing equipment malfunctions and coordinate maintenance and repair.
  • Create and implement preventative maintenance documents and procedures for materials test equipment. Keep testing equipment calibration records up to date.
  • Cleaning / organizing / updating inventory of fluids and testing samples in the storage area
  • Receipt and shipping of materials related to the Lab
  • Support to manufacturing trouble shooting and QC activities when required
  • Lab area organization and cleaning
  • Other duties as required

Note: Duties and Responsibilities will be adjusted based on the final position and the qualification of the successful candidate.


  • Post-secondary education in Materials, Chemical Engineering or Engineering Technology preferred (required for technologist position). High school graduate with minimum 2 years relevant working experience can be considered. Eligibility for CET registration is an asset.
  • Awareness of hazardous materials and the proper handling of these materials required.
  • Basic knowledge of lab equipment and troubleshooting skills highly desired
  • Previous laboratory experience is desirable, as is knowledge of metallurgical products and properties; elastomers and elastomer bonding
  • Familiarity with failure analysis of elastomer and metal products would be an asset
  • Good communication skills in verbal and written English
  • Good documentation and organizational skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is essential
  • Must work well independently, have a keen eye for detail and be team and safety oriented. The candidate shall be physically fit, reliable and highly self-motivated.
