Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently recruiting for an Electrical Engineer (Intermediate) with experience in industrial applications for possible, upcoming projects with our engineering team in the Wood offices at Grande Prairie, AB.

The Wood Renewable Energy & Power business in Grande Prairie performs consulting and E,P,CM services for the Peace Region's Industrial, Power Generation, Pulp & Paper, Oil & Gas and Municipal projects. After more than 35 years, this office continues to provide professional engineering and construction services to Northern Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan.

  • Performing engineering design and related duties; including power system studies, equipment specifications and selection, management of vendor / equipment suppliers, power distribution layouts, grounding, cable distribution design, motor schematics, single line diagrams, lighting design and wiring design
  • Assisting with construction supervision as well as the commissioning of industrial electrical systems
  • Carrying out duties and responsibilities as assigned
  • Identifying scope and schedule changes in accordance with the Change Control Process
  • Preparing technical documentation for bid
  • Evaluating supplier's proposals and deliverable documentation
  • Preparing technical reports and field support (including commissioning/site inspection)
  • Ensuring that designs comply with the relevant Codes, Standards, Regulations and Procedures
  • Preparing estimates and schedules as well as assisting in their review

Skills / Qualifications

  • Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; as well as be registered with APEGA, another Canadian Province with the ability to register in Alberta.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in industrial engineering projects as a Client, Supplier or Consultant - experience in Pulp & Paper considered an asset
  • Proven experience in Control system specifications and control system architecture design, and implementation of Industrial communications protocols
  • Demonstrated experience with ETAP (or similar) and engineering database software tools (AVEVA, SPI, etc) is considered an asset
  • Ability to provide technical leadership for projects
  • Experience with data-centric/integrated engineering environments an asset
  • Written and oral use of conversational and technical English
  • Ability to work out of the office on client sites independently and in a multi-disciplinary team environment with minimal supervision
  • Effective organizational and time management skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced, high volume and deadline-driven environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Clean driving record/abstract
