Overview / Responsibilities

Wood currently has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and innovative Senior Electrical Engineer. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this position is located in our Vancouver, BC office. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing Electrical Engineering leadership for heavy industrial projects in a multi-disciplinary professional environment.

The ideal candidate will be an energetic and self-motivated professional with in-depth project and practical experience who thrives on challenges in a fast-paced environment. The candidate will be capable of multitasking on multiple small to large projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide Electrical engineering design and technical support for heavy industrial and utility interconnection projects throughout the project life cycle
  • Apply the fundamentals of safety by design and ensure the latest safe practices and methods are integrated into the design
  • Prepare proposals, engineering specifications and contract documents
  • Review project documents and drawings for technical quality, accuracy and compliance with applicable client standards and stakeholder requirements
  • Participate or lead project design reviews
  • Support cross-functional reviews and design improvements
  • Develop close working relationship with Construction Management team, support active construction sites, answer information requests (RFIs), perform field reviews, support project constructability reviews
  • Facilitate commissioning activities
  • Ensure project documentation is completed
  • Visit project sites during various stages of a project
  • Evaluate existing facilities and structures
  • Design and/or oversee design of modifications to existing industrial facilities
  • Work closely with process, piping, mechanical and electrical disciplines to deliver successful projects


Skills / Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience with focus on utility projects
  • Knowledge of industrial and substation electrical equipment
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered in Canada
  • Willingness to travel
  • Familiar with Canadian and US electrical codes and regulations
  • Excellent organizational skills to efficiently and effectively manage multiple tasks
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of computer software typically used in Electrical engineering
  • Ability to work independently and in a multi-disciplinary team environment
  • General understand of non-electrical disciplines such as civil, structural, and mechanical for coordination purposes
