Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently recruiting for a Fire Protection Engineer to support the petrochemical industry. Local candidates to the Deer Park, TX area preferred please (there is no relocation assistance or per diem offered).

Authorization to work lawfully in the US without sponsorship from Wood is required

Job

Functional Job Description / Duties / Responsibilities:

Fire Safety Assessments and Risk analysis and inspections at assigned facilities.

Corporate subject matter expert for fire protection, fire hazard assessments, providing guidance concerning fire protection issues for new and existing facilities across different business lines. Understanding of chemical processing and Ignitable liquid /combustible material storage.

Managing capital projects for fire protection risk mitigations, including design engineering, and assisting other project managers to provide direct engineering support.

Develop and support Corporate standards and practices. Provide code and standards interpretations and support plant implementations from OSHA, NFPA, API, DNV, Insurance industry guidelines

Evaluation of insurers recommendations (such as Factory Global or XL Gap Loss Prevention), proposing alternative risk management strategies
  • Exhibit exceptional safety behavior meeting or exceed the company and customer safety standards
  • A person who can look up NFPA, building codes, and FM standards, understand them. Research local codes too (UK, Germany, France, so on). Know when they are the same or almost the same
  • Assist the site project managers with contractors and designers you hire to keep them on track and help contractors design system properly
  • Be able to find out the codes, and somebody who can work code officials for the approval
  • Be able to create a bid documents and perform contract review, to protect Client's interest from extra charges costs that can surface
  • Be able to review contractor drawings/calculations and make sure correct and on time. Coordinate reviews with the Client Insurance Provider
  • Prequalify contractors (make sure low bidders are capable)
  • Be able to recognize and address when a contractor falls short of an obligation, so they can be replaced. Hold up final payments until the system is fully installed and tested for example

Skills / Qualifications:
  • Degree in Mechanical or Fire Science Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years relevant work experience


Certifications / Affiliations:
  • Certificate in Fire Hazard Analysis Association of Fire Engineers
  • Certified Fire Protection Engineer
