Overview / Responsibilities

Wood currently has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Civil Engineer. Reporting to the Civil / Structural Department Manager this position will be in our Oakville, Ontario office. The role has overall responsibility for leading detailed design of: erosion & sedimentation control plans, site layouts, utility design, grading, drainage and stormwater design. The Senior Civil Engineer will lead other Civil Engineers and Designers on power, process and industrial projects for various clients. This is a permanent position. Key Responsibilities
  • FEED/detailed design of large industrial and renewable energy projects involving site plans, grading, drainage design (ditches / culverts), road plan, profiles and alignment, sedimentation and erosion control detail
  • Developing detailed proposals with man-hour estimates and scope of work for various clients
  • Preparation of technical reports, specifications, construction scope of work and quantity estimates
  • Review survey data, maps, drawings, aerial photography, topographical and geotechnical data to execute projects
  • Review building permit requirements and liaise with various municipalities, counties and cities for obtaining building permits
  • Execute assigned tasks within budget and on schedule following Wood's checking procedures
  • Understand contracted scope of work, monitor progress and identify additional scope
  • Visit sites as required. Some sites could be remote and could require trips lasting more than a day
  • Mentor and train subordinate engineers
  • Understanding stake-holder's requirements, developing conceptual designs along with high level estimates and recommend alternatives based on lowest life cycle cost
  • Develop high level schedule with key deliverable dates
  • Work in a safe manner, complying with and actively contributing to the Wood Health, Safety, Security and Environmental (HSSE) policies, manuals and procedures. At all times consider the health, safety and welfare of fellow workers, visitors, clients, community and the environment
  • Ensure that the deliverables meet industry standards of care, client requirements, and is aligned with Wood organizational objectives, systems and procedures
  • Facilitate business development and client relationship building through promotion of Wood's engineering and design services


Skills / Qualifications

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university with a minimum of 15 years experience
  • Strong knowledge of technical aspects of Civil Engineering
  • Experience in wind and solar renewable energy and substation projects will be an asset
  • Proficient in AutoCad 2D, Civil-3D, Vehicle Tracking and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to lead Civil discipline work to the requirements of client
  • Skills in teamwork, team leadership, supervision and coordination
  • Strong communication skills both oral and written
  • Diplomatic and collaborative approach to managing interactions between company and client teams
  • Desire and ability to intervene to resolve issues and improve quality
  • Professional Engineer in good standing licensed with PEO, Ontario is a must. Must be eligible for licensing in other Canadian provinces
