Lead Welding engineer is responsible for support on existing materials and joining improvements, new materials and joining initiatives employing elements of advanced, but mainly conventional techniques related to the materials and manufacturing processes employed in the production and supply of unbonded flexible pipe to API 17J. This includes supporting conventional manufacturing processes and existing supply chain as well as new technology introductions.
In addition, as part of the UK materials team, this role will also ensure general support for metallic and welding elements to the other parts of the organization in support of customers queries, commercial bids or execution projects.

As a Lead Weld Engineer - FPS Offshore, you will be responsible for:

  • Provision of material properties and associated generation of materials qualification specifications and reports (MQR's) in order to achieve IVA approval.
  • Define/develop welding, joining and cladding process parameters and methods for metallic and polymer welding.
  • Develop and control material procurement MTL specifications.
  • Carry out investigation, analysis and reporting of product & process failures in support of both internal/external customers.
  • Required to develop and define detailed work package planning and resource schedules to feed into high level materials engineering qualification project plan.
  • Required to raise and co-ordinate material test and processing trials.
  • Approval/rejection of non-conformances and supplier deviations raised through quality system for welding.
  • Review and approve manufacturing procedures and SOI's which are related to materials technology.
  • Carry out supplier technical audits in support of SCM vendor appraisals.
  • Existing Vendor technical support, develop and maintain technical liaison with vendors as part of continuous improvement.
  • Respond to vendor welding technology queries and clarifications as and when required.
  • Participate in core business bid kick-off meetings and project handover meetings to facilitate knowledge transfer of industry requirements.
  • Any other duties as directed by the Product Development & Validation Leader

To be successful in this role you will have:

 

  • A university degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science,or a related Engineering degree with specialization in Welding and Metallurgy through formal post graduate education and formal training and experiential learning, with recognised professional certification and membership of appropriate engineering bodies.
  • Experience with working knowledge of applicable standards and specifications preferred eg ASME IX , DNVGL-OSF-101, AWS D1.1, ISO15614, NORSOK M-601.
  • Worked at an engineering level, demonstrating an increased level of engineering practice and responsibility, development of others and showing leadership.
