Aker Solutions' Umbilicals and Distribution Equipment team based in Mobile, Alabama, is responsible for supplying to umbilicals and distribution equipment to our clients in the Gulf of Mexico and abroad. We need motivated production operators who can strengthen our team and support our ambitious growth plans within the Gulf of Mexico market. We are looking for Operator I.

Ideal candidates will be local to the Mobile, Alabama area. This is not a remote position. MUST have good mechanical aptitude, working with hand tools.

Must be able to work in the United States without work authorization assistance now or in future. 

Responsibilities & Tasks:

  • Make appropriate adjustments to meet safety, quality, and environmental requirements. Continuously monitor equipment or semiautomatic equipment that processes umbilical elements into a quality umbilical product.
  • Confer with peers, technical and supervisory personnel to report or resolve conditions affecting safety, efficiency and product quality.
  • Install the specified material required to produce the umbilical.
  • Turn valves or move controls to maintain system at specified temperature, pressure, and vacuum settings.
  • Continuously observe the umbilical process; monitor gauges, signals, and equipment; and receive notification, by intercommunication, from control supervisor to make specified operating adjustments on such equipment as brakes, pumps, primary wheels, reels, compressors, water chillers, etc.
  • Make repeated trips, by walking through the entire plant area to visually inspect equipment for possible hazards.
  • Cleans work area once per shift or as required to meet safety requirements.
  • Assists maintenance personnel in plant repairs including removing and installing associated equipment in the umbilical process. Assistance includes pulling, pushing, lifting. Carrying parts, equipment and tools. Use appropriate tools to properly open, close, remove and secure items.
  • Operates a forklift and overhead crane.
  • Perform day to day maintenance and inspection of the closing machine.
  • Cutting of excess tubing, cable, and PVC profiles off reels.
  • Strapping the tubing to the reels prior to start up.
  • Periodic use of overhead cranes to position reels and/ or pertaining equipment.
  • Rigging of Umbilical; Includes loading of reels with Hydraulic tubes, electric cables, PVC profiles, and weight wire into the closing machine. Threading of Center tube, electric cable, PVC profiles and weight wire into the closing machine.
  • The operator is subject to most environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.
  • Work rotating 12 hour shifts and overtime when applicable.
  • Operator is subject to hazards; includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat.

              Qualifications / Personal Attributes:

    Several years experience in a manufacturing environment is required to fulfill this position.  Experience can include but not be limited to; operating/working around heavy production equipment and/or chemical processes, millwright, pipe fitter, welding, control room operator, active participation in safety/quality initiatives

    Skills required include but not limited to: reading instructions/procedures, reading project drawings, report writing, log book writing, visual assessment of surroundings, excellent communication skills, use of hand and electric tools.

    Knowledge required but not limited to:  understanding OSHA regulations, ISO 9001:2000 requirements, company organization structure, knowledge of dangers associated with heavy moving equipment and machinery, ability to understand procedures/JSAs/work instructions.

    Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED.
