Main Responsibilities
  • Assists Master in emergency situations
  • Assists Master in implementing Company policies and Safety Management System
  • Watchkeeper when on conventional watches
  • Maintains stability and trim of vessel to ensure statutory criteria compliance
  • Maintains adequate fresh water on sailing and liaises with ER whilst at sea
  • Liaises with Chief Engineer to pre-plan tank rotation for fuel consumption
  • Oversees the maintenance of all lifesaving, firefighting appliances and watertight integrity as required by statute
  • Maintains all deck machinery, including certification, ancillary equipment, and updating planned maintenance programs in conjunction with the Chief Engineer
  • Maintains fabric of vessel excluding machinery spaces
  • Ensures all garbage is handled in accordance with outlined procedures
  • Maintains stock levels of deck stores
  • Ensures all deck cargo is secure always and organizes cargo transfer operations
  • Departmental head for Deck Officers & Crew
  • In port assists SSO with vessel security arrangements
  • In Port organizes watch-keeping arrangements and provision of safe means of access.


  • Minimum 1-year experience as Chief Officer
  • Qualifications and Certifications requirement, Valid BOSIET, Offshore Medical Certificate,
  • Chief Mate of 3000GT or more unlimited trade voyages
Skill / Attributes / Competencies
  • This position has a high level of safety criticality rating. The jobholder has a responsibility towards managing the safety requirements on all facets of the Vessel.
  • Pleasant disposition with the capability to be authoritative when necessary.
  • Clear and effective oral and written communication skills in English language.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of principle discipline and peripheral subjects.
  • Strong co-ordination, organization and liaison skills with the ability to seek and gain
  • Consensus solutions to complex issues.
  • The ability to understand interface relationship between marine and project personnel.
  • Able to communicate effectively and articulately at all levels.
  • Experience of maritime activities.
  • An awareness of international Codes, Standards and Specifications.
  • Experience with 4 point mooring operation will be advantage.
  • Have a positive attitude
