Overview / Responsibilities

Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is currently seeking a Remedial System Designer/Field Technician to join our team in our Hamilton or Somerset offices, NJ. This position will primarily involve the design of environmental remediation systems and field work for the operations and maintenance (O&M) of those remedial systems. Other duties could also include collecting groundwater, soil and perimeter air monitoring samples for laboratory analysis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Preparation of AutoCAD remedial system design packages including drawings and specifications
  • Preparation of AutoCAD site plans and drawings
  • O&M activities on a wide range of remediation systems and field monitoring which requires travel to specified locations
  • Familiar with ArcGIS is preferred but not required
  • Conduct tests and investigations in the field to obtain data for use by environmental, engineering, and scientific personnel in determining engineering, environmental, or physical properties of soil, bedrock, construction materials, air, and aquatic ecosystems
  • Perform field tests according to prescribed procedures, processes and standards using field instruments and other environmental equipment
  • Collect samples of air, water, soil, or sediment materials, prepare samples for testing, record data, and prepare summary reports
  • Use specialized equipment and apparatus to prepare analysis and reports
  • Prepare and maintain field logs, reports on paper and/or electronically
  • Enter data and use analytical and design software applications
  • Coordinate and oversee specialty subcontractors and inspect workmanship

Skills / Qualifications

  • Requires work around construction equipment, drilling rigs, and environment contamination
  • Some fieldwork may require working with hazardous materials and in hazardous conditions
  • College degree
  • Prefer 8 to 12 years of remedial system design experience using AutoCAD, engineering or environmental science education and 10 years of environmental field tech experience
  • AutoCAD experience with remedial system design required
  • Ability to use laboratory and/or test equipment in an effective and safe manner
  • 40-hour OSHA Hazwoper trained
  • Ability to understand procedural manuals and execute work orders
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to follow directions

Physical Job Requirements
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, climb and lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to drive large pick-up truck; ability to drive a trailer helpful
  • Ability to use hands to operate field equipment
  • Close, distance, and peripheral vision; normal auditory function
  • Must complete employment physical demonstrating ability to meet job requirements, including the ability to wear a respirator, as required
  • Completion of annual or bi-annual employment physical, as required
  • Valid driver's license and insurable driving record
  • Must pass Health and Safety Training and Defensive Driving Courses upon hire
