Our Client is currently searching for a Bucket Technician (Turbine Mechanic) to work on Steam/Gas Turbines on various projects across Canada.  Candidates from all provinces will be considered.

Bucket Technician (Turbine Mechanic) 

Job Summary:

The Bucket Technician will have general knowledge and experience working with heavy duty gas turbine compressor and turbine technical knowledge. Responsible for the on-site repair and replacement of major rotating equipment components such as compressor blades, turbine blades and nozzle segments in line with the standard duties associated with the position of Bucket Technician (aka Steam Turbine/ Gas Turbine - Blader)

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for Inspection, repair and Installation and machining of different types of tangential entry/axial entry buckets/blades
  • Familiar with machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, punch press, hand/power tools associated with grinding, deburring and metal forming, etc.
  • Able to use common precision measuring instruments and hand tools such as tape measure, level, square, file or rasp, etc.
  • Ability to read, understands, and follows company repair procedures and directions.
  • Knowledge of fluorescent die penetration inspection for cracks not visible
  • Understand the importance of quality and error prevention when planning and executing work tasks
  • Understand field procedures, the importance of using the latest version of controlled documents and the importance of reporting observed defects
  • Be aware of the various roles in a maintenance project and understands specifically the role of GT/ ST bucket blade technician
  • Proficient in the utilization of field procedures when planning and performing work
  • Know how to properly fill out required inspection and repair documentation
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Travel may be required
  • Ability and willingness to work holidays, weekends and overtime as required by field assignments
Required Qualifications & Experience:
  • Degree or associate degree in Technical Field, Gas/ Steam Turbine Systems Technician preferred
  • 3 years' experience as mechanical technician
  • Experience working with hand and power tools as well as measurement tools
  • Must demonstrate ability to understand, read and interpret technical drawings
Desired Characteristics:
  • Can perform good level technical evaluation functions. Understands how to read and interpret drawings and blue prints. Is proficient in basic Mathematical functions.
  • Can navigate around the Gas Turbine, and effectively within standard work areas.
  • Capable of taking or collecting required readings and measurements.
  • Demonstrate proficiently through formal training class attendance and positive Task Performance Evaluation results in the technical capability requirements of tool usage, basic machining, grinding, etc, activities related to the following GTBT workscope(s):
    • E & F Class Compressor Blade Shim Pinning
    • F-Class R0 & R17 Compressor Blade Change Out
    • F-Class Bucket Change Out
    • Frame 7/9 E & B Class Bucket Change Out
    • E/B/F Class Compressor Blade Blending
    • Frame 6 B Class Bucket Change Out
  • Has a solid foundation of basic Heavy Duty Gas Turbine compressor and turbine technical knowledge
  • Must be able to understand and implement technical procedures and have strong analytical, problem solving, organizational and computer skills
