Overview / Responsibilities

Wood has a permanent employment opportunity for a Senior Air Quality and Carbon Management Specialist as a key member of Canada's Decarbonisation team. This dynamic role will require a solid technical background, in combination with demonstrated experience interfacing with clients, regulatory agencies and other stakeholders.

The successful candidate will join our Air Quality practice based in Ontario, working on a broad range of projects across Canada and internationally.

This role can be based in any Wood office location across Canada with the option to work remotely.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical direction for the successful completion of projects for clients in the mining, industrial, transportation, and government sectors.
  • Strategic advisor to the air quality team on regulatory and technical matters
  • Apply a thorough understanding of current and emerging policy, regulations, guidelines, and best practices related to decarbonisation projects and initiatives
  • Establish and maintain positive and effective client relationships
  • Manage projects related to greenhouse gas management solutions such as inventory and regulatory reporting support, verification/validation and audit services, and evaluation of mitigation options
  • Develop proposals with technical, financial, and contractual considerations
  • Support GHG and air quality studies prepared in support of federal and provincial Environmental Assessments
  • Technical writing, report preparation, and senior technical review, including QA/QC of technical documents
  • Liaise and work with other technical specialists as part of multi-disciplinary project teams such as facilities and infrastructure engineers, economists, and specialists in transportation, mining, infrastructure, and other environmental disciplines
  • Support marketing and business development efforts
  • Provide technical support and mentoring of junior and intermediate colleagues
  • Promote Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines in the execution of all work


Skills / Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years directly related consulting, industrial and / or regulatory experience
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, atmospheric sciences, or related science field, with preference given to advanced or engineering degrees
  • Expertise in developing GHG inventories and carbon footprinting, including those involving Scope 3 emissions, Land Use Changes, and avoided emissions for industrial facilities, transportation, and/or municipal clients. Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) or energy modelling experience would be advantageous
  • Understanding of current and emerging climate change policies, global standards, protocols, and programmes, and regulatory frameworks , pertinent to carbon footprinting and decarbonisation
  • Candidate must have, and be able to demonstrate, excellent verbal and written English communication skills and must be detail oriented;
  • Reliability, strong work ethic and ability to work in a team-oriented environment are a must
  • Ability to effectively work on multiple project tasks while meeting cost, scope, and schedule requirements
  • Project management experience, including scope and budget management
  • Diverse industry experience, including infrastructure, manufacturing, waste management, energy, and mining projects
  • Leadership and business development skills, including experience building and maintaining productive relationships with clients
  • Demonstrated ability to lead small groups of air quality specialists and a desire to mentor staff.
