Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is looking to recruit an Engineering and Projects Lead to join its Operational Design Consulting (ODC) team based in Kingston-Upon-Hull. The role shall lead and manage a team to deliver projects and engineering solutions to a range of customers, across multiple sectors and industries.

Act as a customer focal point, ensuring that work is delivered in accordance with agreed key performance indicators (KPI), budgets, schedules, procedures and quality, but also to identify opportunities to grow the services with new and existing customers.

Support the Operations Manager ODC to identify and implement change and improvement in operational efficiencies, processes and procedures and identifying customer solutions.

Work alongside other Technical Leads to ensure that resources are deployed effectively and to identify potential recruitment needs required to deliver the services.

The Engineering and Projects Lead will lead by example, consistently displaying and enforcing the company's values and behaviours, acting as a role model, committing to the highest standards of safe and ethical behaviour and creating an inclusive work environment

Delivery and Performance
  • Support the HSSEA culture and performance
  • Support the elimination of technical incidents through robust controls, incident reviews and embedding lessons learnt
  • Manage and work within budgets, and have responsibility for financial performance, for the customers and projects in their area of the business
  • Drive operational efficiencies and margin enhancement through innovation and the application of digital technologies, across traditional services
  • Support opportunities for margin enhancement including through HVEC utilisation
  • Ensure service integrity is maintained across work scopes and frameworks
  • Prepare short-term and long-term workforce plans to identify staff required to meet forecasted demand
  • Support the continuous improvement of systems and tools to deliver cost-effective and competitive execution
  • Prepare appropriate proposals and estimates in line with customer expectations, utilising Subject Matter Experts (SME), to support technical submissions
  • Prepare reports and project summaries for customers and internal reviews
  • Work with project controls to ensure fiscal control of project.

Strategy and Development
  • Provide support to the business development process to identify and win new work
  • Act as an advocate for digital offerings, both internally and to our customers, to enhance our market opportunities
  • Support the strengthening of workshare across the Wood organisation

People and Capability
  • Line Management responsibility includes the setting of targets and objectives, pay reviews, performance reviews, career progression, training, succession planning and development.
  • Identification of competence gaps and organise technical training or job development to close gaps
  • Support professional development, competence assessment and build development plans
  • Understand future resource and capability required to deliver current and future projects, and support recruitment and selection.
  • Support the vision and strategy direction of the business, and motivate people to commit to the organisation's mission, values, and goals
  • Assist in the identification and support the development of technology champions to drive the implementation of new technologies and tools
  • Develop, support and coach apprentices and graduates to ensure they reach their full potential
  • Build an inclusive team culture which recognises the value that different perspectives and cultures bring

Governance
  • Develop and maintain processes and procedures in line with Wood policies including codes and legislations
  • Support the development of detailed project execution plans and activily manage them for specific scopes along with risk management, progress/financial management, etc.
  • Manage the development of design manuals, HSE files and other intellectual property
  • Understand, maintain, and promote software tools
  • Support Project Delivery Assurance, including a system of review and activities on projects
  • Highlight short comings in systems and processes, and implement appropriate improvement using established change management practice


Skills / Qualifications

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of HNC/D in an engineering discipline
  • Project Management Qualification to PMQ level
  • Degree in engineering or business management (desirable)


Knowledge, skills, and experience:
  • Experience of engineering / technical service delivery in relevant industry sector
  • Experience and understanding of design tools and processes
  • Broad understanding of the business drivers for relevant sector clients
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to work with multiple stakeholders
  • Able to resource talent to meet current and future needs
  • Experience in developing talent using coaching, mentoring and formal performance processes
  • Experience in developing project execution plans and schedules as well as delivering multi-discipline engineering projects
