Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently recruiting for a talented Civil Engineer with a focus on feasibility assessments, design and estimating for renewable energy technologies including but not limited to solar, wind and battery storage to join the group in our Austin, TX office.

As the Civil Engineer, you will lead the creation of designs, reports and calculations on renewable energy projects. You will also supervise the technical execution of projects including feasibility and constructability analysis, solar civil estimating, solar site design, third party design reviews, and site modeling and grading. You will act as a Consultant, regularly interfacing with clients, Project Manangers, senior Operations and Technical staff and provide training for entry level professionals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the detailed technical design of civil and site components on energy projects
  • Develop complete civil plan sets, calculations, reports, and specifications
  • Provide technical risk identification at all stages of development
  • Review client-provided facility information and topographic surveys to ensure data is sufficient for civil design
  • Perform site visits to assess pre-construction conditions and ensure accuracy of survey
  • Evaluate potential site constraints such as wetlands, streams, property/lease boundaries, geotechnical reports, and determine impacts to the civil design and layout
  • Collaborate with project management team on permitting efforts with local, state, and federal agencies
  • Provide QA/QC for design work performed by team members and/or outside consultants
  • As owner's engineer provide review of specifications, equipment selection and designs to ensure they are meeting industry best practice and local, state and federal requirements
  • Work closely with delivery team to communicate issues during design and ensure timely completion of deliverables
  • Assist with work planning and staffing for project portfolio
  • Support the project management team on various business development efforts including preparation of proposals and client interaction
  • Evaluates, selects, and recommends solutions
  • Create site-specific solar building blocks and layouts for proposals and to drive detailed Engineering activities
  • Use internal tools and industry standards to optimize project designs for constraints such as scope, schedule, budget and geography

Skills / Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or closely related technical field required
  • Preference for industry or professional association licenses relevant to line of work (PE, AAEES, ASCE, EIT)
  • 1-3 years of experience working in the clean energy sector on civil engineering, erosion control design, solar design, hydrologic/hydraulic modeling, stormwater management systems, and permitting
  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience in solar and energy storage preferred.
  • Must have experience with Civil3D
  • Familiar with software packages such as Excel, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and programming languages such as MATLAB
  • Supervisory experience with the design and implementation of Erosion, Sedimentation, and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present to and interacting with clients, consultants, regulatory agencies and review professionals
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Self-starter who can work independently and with team members
  • Bilingual and ability to work with international teams a plus
  • EPC and Geotechinal experience a plus
  • Must be US citizen or have authorization to work lawfully in the US, without sponsorship from Wood
