Overview / Responsibilities

Wood has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Project Manager in the Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta area, supporting a greenfield project in the Food & Agri industry for approximately 4 months.

As the leader of the Owner's Project Management team, the selected candidate will be accountable for all aspects of the project - engineering, procurement fabrication and construction. The Project Manager will be seconded into the Client's organization and will be working directly under the supervision of the Client. Some of the duties anticipated for the Project Manger include:
  • As a seconded member into the client's organization, integrate with the client's team, planning and executing the project on their behalf
  • Enforce Safety, Health, Environment, and Security requirements with project team members including Construction Contractors and Vendors
  • Ensure project objectives are met and scope, cost (estimate) and schedule are well defined and aligned the objectives
  • Accountable for Safety, Scope, Cost and Schedule
  • Manage both internal and external project stakeholders and ensure important, relevant information is communicated regularly to all stakeholders
  • Provide regular progress reports to the client
  • Proactively anticipate, identify, and resolve project-related risks, conflicts, difficulties or problems
  • Manage the project staffing plan, ensure the Owner's project team is properly staffed with qualified personnel in a timely fashion
  • Provide leadership, guidance and management to all members of the Owner's project team, ensure everyone is working together and meeting the project objectives
  • Define the project execution plan, which includes the project execution strategy, contract execution strategy and procurement plan (equipment, materials, and services), etc.
  • Ensure the procurement process is properly managed (equipment, materials, and services) including a well-defined procurement status register
  • Ensure all service contracts (engineering, construction, etc) are properly managed with appropriate interfaces and service providers fulfill their scope-of-work and comply with contractual requirements
  • Prepare and present decision support package deliverables (DSP's) for gate review meetings and project approval during the project Front End Loading (FEL) phases
  • Establish baseline budget and schedule. Provide regular forecast updates and resolve issues as they arise
  • Ensure appropriate review and input from Owner's support groups during the FEL and detailed design - technical subject matter experts, operations, environmental, commercial, etc.
  • Ensure all permitting is completed in accordance with project timelines
  • Ensure all site preparations are completed in advance of construction mobilization. Includes, but is not limited to:
    • Safety
    • Temporary power, water, etc.
    • Temporary site facilities
    • Temporary roads and parking
    • Warehousing
    • Equipment and material lay-downs
    • Construction permitting (ie. lifting, excavations, etc)
    • Site staffing plan for Owner's Team
  • Upon initiation of construction, mobilize to site and perform the project management role with greater focus on construction
  • Ensure appropriate construction monitoring is established (inspection and testing, compliance with specifications and drawings, etc)
  • Manage the Change Control Process for scope, schedule, and budget changes
  • Approve or endorse Change Requests from engineering consultants, site contractors and materials / equipment vendors
  • Review and approves purchase requisitions, contracts, and invoices
  • Ensure that Lessons Learned Reviews are conducted

Skills / Qualifications

  • A degree in a relevant technical discipline is highly desirable, but not essential if the candidate can demonstrate the right level of experience in managing construction projects
  • 15+ years of experience in project management of large industrial projects. Food and Agri industry experience is an asset, but not essential
  • Experience with project management of detailed design and construction (at site) are essential
  • Experience with FEL project development phases and preparation of decision support packages deliverables (DSP's) is essential
  • Experience with EPC and/or EPCM project delivery
  • Experience should include proven examples of the candidate's ability to lead teams to deliver projects and contractual obligations on time and schedule
  • Have an advanced knowledge of project controls including scheduling, budgeting, risk management progress monitoring and forecasting
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel an Power Point is essential
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Excellent leadership and team alignment capabilities
  • Could be eligible for a Living Out Allowance upon mobilization to site
  • Current authorization to lawfully work in Canada without sponsorship from Wood is required
