Overview / Responsibilities

Wood's Conventional Energy business unit is currently looking for an Intermediate FE Stress Engineer to join our office in Calgary. As a stress engineer, you will be involved in a variety of self-directed engineering tasks under moderate supervision. You will evaluate engineered system for mechanical integrity and compliance with applicable standards and provide technical recommendations.

Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Perform linear and nonlinear stress analysis of buried and above ground pipelines and facility piping primarily using FEA software ABAQUS
  • Apply codes and standards related to the design and operation of oil and gas pipeline systems, in particular CSA Z662
  • Prepare document results and write technical reports
  • Review the work of other team members for accuracy and completeness
  • Prepare technical calculations for various aspects of pipeline analysis such as lateral buckling, buoyancy, etc.
  • Assist in the preparation of execution plan and development of technical guidelines
  • Review client technical specifications and requirements to ensure compliance
  • Coordinate with the client to receive the required input data and relevant information
  • Undertaking technical reviews of documents prepared by the team

 


Skills / Qualifications

The ideal candidate for this role must possess strong knowledge and skills using FEA software ABAQUS.

Additional skills and qualifications for this position include:

 

 

  • Excellent understanding of Finite Element techniques and extensive experience in using it. A minimum of 5 years of experience working with FEA software ABAQUS is required.
  • Good understanding of codes and standards related to the design and operation of oil and gas pipeline systems, in particular CSA Z662.
  • Post Graduate degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering is preferable.
  • Programing experience using software MATLAB, Python or FORTRAN is preferable.
  • Strong multi-tasking, time management, problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated competency in verbal and written technical communication in English
  • Have Professional Engineer Status with APEGA or eligibility to apply
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude
