Overview / Responsibilities

The Indirect Tax Accountant supports the Finance Department of Wood EIS and the broader Wood community in the coordination of the company's non-income tax activities to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of financial information and non-income tax reporting. Specific tax reporting responsibilities include:

U.S. Sales and Use tax / Gross Receipts tax

U.S. Personal Property tax

Canadian GST/HST and PST

U.S. Business Licenses

Unclaimed Property (U.S. and Canada)

International VAT

Primary Duties:

  • Prepare Sales and Use Tax returns in accordance with the tax laws of each jurisdiction
  • Prepare Canadian GST/HST/ PST returns monthly in accordance with the laws set by the Providences
  • Coordinate with the line of business and jurisdictions to apply for new business licenses
  • Prepare & Renew all business license on an annual basis
  • Prepare Business & Occupation tax returns on a quarterly basis
  • Resolve indirect tax issues communicated through tax notices, & the line of business
  • Perform reconciliations to ensure indirect tax accounts are properly stated
  • Prepare Journal Entries to adjust & correct variances within indirect tax accounts
  • Coordinate with A/p to ensure timely payments of tax returns

Other administrative duties such as documenting procedures, processes, scanning & filing

Skills / Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related fields
  • Minimum 5+years of Multi-State & Local Tax experience
  • Proficient with Microsoft applications, Excel and Access
  • Ability to work independently and multitask under deadlines
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic and changing organization
  • Strong initiative and follow-up
  • Positive attitude and a willingness to take on new tasks
  • Ability to work overtime as necessary to meet tax deadlines


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with business license administration, Sales Tax, GST/HST/PST
  • Experience in a professional service organization (e.g., engineering and consulting)
  • CMI, MTAX, CPA or CPA candidate
