Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently recruiting for Home Office based Material Controllers to work on various European Petrochemicals projects, initially in the Reading office, with the potential to move onto site.

This role could be on a Fixed Term Contract or contractor basis.

The role is to establish, maintain and operate a Materials Control System complying with Material Control Execution Procedures and supporting materials control work practices in conjunction with project specific procurement execution plan and project specific materials control procedures.

Interface with project groups to ensure all necessary steps are taken to achieve Right Material at Right Location at Right Time, such as Project management / Client, Project Controls, in particular Planning, Engineering, Buyers / Expeditors / Inspection Coordinators / Shipping and maintain a string dialogue with Site Materials Controllers.


Liaise with the Project Supply Chain Manager to support establishment of appropriate project specific material control strategy in line with Wood policy and procedures.

Review 'required-on-site' dates for materials, provided by Project Planning Engineer. Establish estimated pre-order and post-order procurement activities for all materials and monitor and report on achievement, recommending any corrective actions as appropriate.

Monitor the issue of requisition indexes, requisitions, purchase orders and amendments.

Liaise with project groups to ensure that up-to-date descriptive, quantity, cost and delivery information is maintained for each commodity, segregated into the various areas of the project.

Regularly analyse material control reporting information to determine where purchasing progress or material delivery is likely to be inadequate and make recommendations for remedial action to the Project Supply Chain Manager. Monitor progress on agreed remedial action to ensure that a satisfactory solution is achieved.

Check and verify data prior to issue of materials control reports to project management/site. In particular ensure that:


  • ETA dates are current, realistic and in line with promised delivery/shipping lead time etc.
  • Materials matching reports are accurate at summary and detail level for shop fabrication and field erection, based on construction priorities
  • Identify, list, status, expedite and report any materials identified for shutdown turnarounds, non-shutdown and pre-shutdown tie-ins and other works


Skills / Qualifications




  • Qualified to ISCED Level 3 (Upper Secondary)

Knowledge, skills and experience:



  • Good level of materials / logistics experience demonstrating results
  • Varied and detailed work experience in the industry which would allow understanding of and
    exposure to key material control and logistics concepts and principles
  • Previous use of ERPs such as Maximo, Oracle, SAP
  • Competent in the use of the Microsoft Office suite of tools
