Our client is looking for Geotechnical Engineers for an initial 6 month contract, located in Aberdeen.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Complete geotechnical engineering aspects for offshore renewables projects, with support from senior team members
  • Evaluate the quality of available site investigation data for offshore renewables projects, and be capable of specifying and supervising site investigations when needed
  • Interpret and use offshore site investigation data and be able to integrate results into ground models and derive parameters for the detailed design of offshore windfarm cabling & subsea infrastructure
  • Carry out soil/cable interaction analyses, and support the associated engineering disciplines for cable / umbilical installation analyses, stability analyses, buckling and walking assessments
  • Complete offshore trenching, seabed preparation and rock dumping assessments
  • Understand the nature of the various geohazards affecting a site and evaluate their impact on the construction
  • Understand general geotechnical issues and evaluate any associated financial / safety / quality implications to company / Offshore Cables
  • Participate in offshore assignments, such as the supervision of offshore site investigations, foundation installation, and mechanical protection of cables e.g. trenching & rock dumping works as required
  • Be able to innovate and think differently to optimise technical solutions
  • Be able to present their work effectively to multi-disciplinary / multi-national teams and in front of clients
  • The selected candidate will have good commercial awareness and experience of production of project documents within the relevant timescales
  • The selected candidate will report to the Discipline manager and be part of a successful multi-cultural and international team
  • The following would also be an advantage:
  • Experience in the use of ArcGIS or similar geographic information system
  • Undertake detailed design and installation of gravity based, piled & suction installed foundations and evaluate/recommend cable initiation anchorage
  • Use of limit analysis for estimation of collapse load for foundations subject to complex loading
  • Use of 2D and 3D finite element software (Plaxis) for analysis and design of complex soil-structure interaction problems

REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications:

  • Master degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering, Geoscience or Geology with specialisation in Geotechnical Engineering aspects
  • Demonstrable relevant working experience in the same or similar field of engineering
  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding and experience of offshore site investigations, foundation design, cable / soil interaction & cable mechanical protection aspects
  • Understanding and appreciation of Geographical Information System data systems. Applicants who are competent users would be at an advantage
